Background story~ Found a tiny little kitten in my yard stuck in the bushes on Thursday afternoon. Turns out my neighbor brought home two kittens about 5 days ago. He got them outside of Petco where someone was giving them away for free. He said they meowed too much, so he put them outside. Yep, he stuck two 8wk old kittens outside and left them to take care of themselves
. By the time I found out, one of them had already disappeared. My neighbor later tells me he really doesn't want the cat, his dog just cost him $300 at the vet and he can't take care of anymore animals. I told him no thanks and gave him his cat back. Friday morning, 2 girls rang my doorbell with the kitten in tow saying it was following them down the road crying and almost fell down the drain. They wanted to know if it was mine---so rather than let it die, I took the kitten in. I am pissed because I really can't take care of another pet(we already have a 10 month old puppy), but my daughter is in love with the thing now, and the only way to get it out of my life would be to take it to the pound, and I won't do that. Damn irresponsible neighbors
.
Ok-I'm done venting, lol-now let me tell you what's wrong with the little guy.
I took him to the vet and he was dehydrated and underweight. She said he has an upper respitory virus, but his lungs are clear. He doesn't have any drainage coming from his nose or eyes, but his nose is a tad bit crusty. Leukemia test came back neg. and they gave him a dewormer. The problem is that he's still not really eating. He won't eat any dry food and I can only get him to eat wet food off my fingers. I think he may have eaten around a tsp. of wet food today. He is drinking and I am also syringe feeding him water to make sure he gets enough. He had some funky smelling poop yesterday and today some, but it is tapering off and looking more nomal. Oh and he did vomit once-also yesterday. He is mostly tired and quiet, but he will still play and purr some here and there.
What can I do that I'm not already doing? Should I get kitten formula?? What about diluted raw cows milk?? Or should I stick to the wet food.
Help!
