do dryer balls shorten drying time or just remove static?

I'm going to be using AIOs soon so I was wondering if dryer balls would shorten the drying time in the dryer (assuming I don't line dry). Or would throwing a dry towel in with the load work just as well? Or does nothing work?

I have heard of the towel method but haven't tried it before. I do have dryer balls and I think it does speed up the time a little. I haven't noticed amazing results though.

I use the dryer balls mostly for softening clothing and diapers. I haven't noticed too much of a difference with static. I use wool balls, so I don't know if the ones in the store help with static.

I haven't used dryer balls, but in my experience the towel method makes a huge difference in drying time and fluffiness.

I use the store drier balls, and I am pretty certain they soften AND reduce drying time -- for all my clothes. I don't notice any static, either.

When I used to do the occasional loads of laundry at my husband's (then boyfriend's) apartment, I was shocked that it could take at least an hour, if not more, to dry his laundry. I don't know if my drier is just a whole lot more efficient, but I have a dry load in under a half an hour, and I chalk it up to the drier balls.

it's been a few years since I was drying aio's, though, so I can't remember drying time/efficiency with those in mind. I'll let you know in a few months.

do dryer balls shorten the life of the diaper cause of all the beating around in the dryer? I've always wondered.

I use dryer balls and a towel in pretty all my laundry (2 towels with the dipes) and don't know why I didn't do this years and years ago. We use indian cotton prefolds, pockets, and aio's and I throw it all in the dryer. The dryer balls make a difference in the drying time and soften and fluff things up more. The dry towels make a big difference in drying time and I actually have two dedicated bath towels that I use just for laundry (they're older and retired so they're not shedding towel lint any longer). The dryer balls do not beat up my laundry at all.

I've cut down my dry time so much on all my laundry I feel greener than the grinch

I never noticed too much of a difference w/ dryer balls. I did notice a difference adding a towel. I decided to try using a heavy cotton bath mat, instead of a towel, and that is amazing!!

I have found dryer balls to reduce the drying time on all my clothes and diapers; actually my mom bought me another set so I now have 4 dryer balls and that makes clothes dry even faster!

I have used dryer balls for about 2 years. With my dryer it used to take an average of 60 minutes to dry and now it takes about 40-45 minutes. My clothes feel softer from the "fluffing" of the dryer balls and there is no static. The biggest thing is the convenience -- I just leave them in my dryer vs. always having to remember to throw the dryer sheets in. And I don't have to remember to buy dryer sheets since I don't use them anymore. I love my dryer balls.
