Ideas to help with "morning sickness"..

or in my case will probably be "all day sickness".

I was horribly sick with my dd and it was so bad that I had to start taking Unisom. I would rather not take it, being a drug but I have to work and there is no way I can do what I do being that sick.

Hopefully this time around will be different. But I want to be prepared, so what has worked for you and what will you have on hand??

I'm already on top of getting my vitamin b's. I know to eat more, small meals throughout the day. I have Unisom on hand just in case it gets bad. But what else should I have to be ready??

last time i had horrible all-day sickness and sea bands were the only thing that took the edge off.

natural ginger ale with real ginger helped too.

Sea bands
Crystallized ginger (can get it at the health food store)
Ginger tea every night before bed
Small frequent meals
Eating crackers in bed before you get up in the morning

I was sick as a dog with DD and those were the things that helped me. I'm already dreading the m/s this time around!

i just read that having a low-calorie snack before bed helps to prevent morning sickness. i'll be trying that this evening.

I meant to post earlier and forgot (PB already?) but lemon heads in my purse and some kind of mint gum always helped me. if you start throwing up, the BRAT diet helps with that, bananas rice applesauce toast, and that should calm your stomach. i did actually throw up last time, and it's so weird, it started at 5.3 weeks and ended when I was 21 weeks pregnant, and I have struggled to understand why it hasn't started yet this time around. Then I remember I'm barely pregnant 4.1 or 4.2 (technically at least) and that's why.

I do feel relatively good tho, other than being tired, and used more POAS's tonight ~ ALL SUPER DARK PINK ~ so i'm relieved now. Sorry

Good Luck mama!!

:: Yey, mama!! My test was super dark this morning too!! Soo exciting!!!

I did good all day today with eating small, more frequent snacks..until tonight, we went to The Outback for dinner. I totally filled up and whoa, the nausea and lump in my throat was intense. *REMINDER* Small meals only!!! Yikes that its happening soo soon!! I didn't get sick at all until I was 6weeks along with my dd. I'm only 4.4 weeks along. sheesh!!!

Sea Bands
Ginger Ale
Ginger Tea
Mint gum

Those are things I am after!!

I remember that NOTHING worked with dd but the unisom. Hopefully this time will be different tho.

The other thing that might help is eating more corn-based snacks, like popcorn and tortilla chips. There was a cross-cultural study I read about last time I was pg, in which they found a society that had never heard of morning sickness somewhere in South America. Their diet was almost entirely corn-based. Turns out that corn has none of the compounds that trigger morning sickness (I can't remember what they're called, but they're more comon in things with strong flavors).

Worth a try, anyway.

Sucking on a peppermint helps a little for passing m/s. For the "all day sickness" the only thing that helped me was small sips of regular Coke. I know, not the best thing for you, but it worked! When I was pg with DD, I probably drank 3-4 oz throughout the day to keep the nausea to a managable level. And I was able to give it up completely when I got to 10-11 weeks and the m/s went away.

I'm not pregnant, just hoping to be soon.

Anyway...I didn't get to try this since I hadn't heard of it yet when I was pregnant. But I read it, and my very-afflicted-by-morning-sickness-pregnant-with-twins friend says it os the only thing, of many she's tried, that helped:

Drink a tablespoon or so of apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm honey water. The place I read recommended taking it upon waking, though I'm sure you could take it whenever.

I do this for sore throats/coughs and it helps. I plan to try it if I get pregnant and have any morning sickness.

If you're nervous about the vinegar, ask your midwife or doc. My friend's midwife was fine with it and plans to recommend it to others.

Best wishes!

I had two pregnancies before this (one ended in mc, the other in DS), but with each, from about ten weeks on, I was afflicted with low-to-medium-level nausea pretty much all day. Not throwing up, just really uncomfortable, nagging nausea that kept me from wanting to eat.

I tried everything from ginger to crackers to various teas, smaller meals, etc. Nothing worked. Then my husband suggested homeopathics. He's English, and grew up with them being commonly available and used by lots of people. I Googled "homeopathics for morning sickness (this was before we had the awesome homeopathic book and kit that we have now) and found several sets of symptoms with remedies for each set. My particular symptoms indicated nausea connected to an overproduction of saliva and for this, homeopathic ipecac (of all things!) was the remedy. It's worth remembering that homeopathics work differently than other types of remedies. so you might be surprised that something you would normally think would have the opposite effect can actually help you. I got the grains (I think at 30x strength) from The Vitamin Shoppe, started taking them, and that was all I needed for both pregnancies. It worked like a miracle for me: I felt great and was able to eat! Still had aversions to some things, but no more nagging nausea all day long.

Now we have an excellent homeopathy book that we use all the time as well as a kit, so with this pregnancy, when/if morning sickness starts, I'll be checking my symptoms and choosing the appropriate remedy.

I use Phenegren. I always get Hyperimisis when I am pregnant. That is life threatening morning sickness.
