How long do beans last?

How long do dry beans last? I keep them stored in Mason jars. My friend brought be a couple of bags of beans from her local farm. I don't know if type matters, but I have kidney beans, black beans and I *think* pinto beans (tan with dark spots on them).

I've had dried beans that lasted for YEARS. In general, the older the beans are, the longer they will take to cook. But as long as the beans look okay (not moldy, etc), they should be fine.

Yep. I've had experiences with beans that didn't really get properly soft when cooked (they didn't look too great so I'm assuming they were several years old) but were still completely edible. I don't think they ever really go *bad*, just get tougher.
