Hi,
Earlier, I posted about the New Living Translation as a suggestion, but as I've discovered recently, most new versions are not good for any Christian. What most are discovering is that the KJV is closest to the original documented texts. The problem is that many new versions are omitting vital pieces of the Bible and rewording other sections. For instance, Matt 17:21, Matt 18:11, Matt 23:14, Mark 7:16, Mark 9:44, Mark 9:46, Mark 11:26, Acts 8:37 have been completely erased from today's Bibles. Verses like 1 John 5:7 will say something like "there are three that testify" when the original states the three that testify are the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit, and these three are One.
The newer versions take away from the deity of Jesus, the power of His blood, and don't have the same powerful effect as a KJV. It may be easier to get him a KJV with a Biblical concordance/dictionary or get one on audio. If you check search engines or youtube, you will see many discussions on how the NIV and other versions are considered anti-Christian which means giving him one of these Bibles won't help him much. I recently checked out this one to see how the verses compared to the Bibles I have here.
