What exactly do they give out? I remember when I was little my grandmother getting beans, cheese and honey but that's all I remember.
I am not sure our food pantry gives out way old food (its a church ran one) so we stopped going.

I said 65 a week (WAY low but she provides food and honestly I need any money I can get).I am kind of nervous as I live in a trailer (its newish but could use a painting inside etc) and I just feel like someone will judge me because we live in a trailer. She is suppose to call so I will see what happens.
I hope you are at least asking for $65/each kid/week!

The perishables is all fresh stuff from the store and is good for another week. Today when I went in to ask questions they handed me 3 bags of real lettuce (sweet baby greens), doz organic eggs and offered bread which I didn't take since we couldn't use it. They get the $$ stuff that doesn't sale because its so $$$, like the $15 bowls of cut up melons, lunch meat ect. It all has to go that day or its trashed.

I'm just wondering what you get at the commodities give away.

That's what I was thinking, that's crazy cheap no matter where you live even for 1 kid! Can you imagine paying $13 day for 2 kids? That's $7.50 day per kid, desperate or not for money, that's way to low.

I know its insane! but the going rate for in home care, where I live is 20.00 a day. (We were looking a babysitter it was 100.00 a week,5 days,9 hrs a day and they provided food.) That also was both girls 100.00 a week. Maybe around here everyone is desperate? I have no clue.lol. oh and no its actually 65 a week for 2 kids with the mom providing food. Shes a single mom low income otherwise I would have charged the normal 80-100 rate a week for here.

ok after doing math and reading yall's replys I decided to write her back and tell her 65 is just to little. Thanks for making me check the math LOL! Hopefully she doesn't get offended because even 200 extra a month will help us a TON!

Something just occurred to me, I often feel the same way because I live in an apt when many people here have a house. I wouldn't worry about it, as long as your home is clean, safe and you provide what the need then you will find someone

I know I have nothing to worry about I am just a worry wart lol. I did send her a email saying I had to raise the price because it wasn't fair for that low.She wrote back and was fine with that so thank goodness. My house is fairly clean (you know lived in) but I plan to do a TON of decluttering, washing walls etc stuff that I wouldn't normally do lol. I just worry I am such a introvert I have alot of trouble with people coming over.

I can relate to how you feel. I live in a trailer and I'm an introvert. I don't like having people come over in my space, especially not if I also feel they will be judging me, as I find most people tend to do. It wouldn't be so bad if our trailer was leveled. We've lived here since July 1, 2005 and it's been unlevel this whole time. At least I know which corner of the living room the drinks will spill toward.... And we did replace the flooring in the kitchen/living room from carpeting to linoleum, so that helped.

My trailer is actually new so I have NO idea why I am so concerned. I mean I guess its the introvert thing but gosh. I don't even like friends coming over. The underpinning needs to be redone because of high winds over the past 2-3 years.

i lived in a trailer for years. me and my ex bought one when we were 19, and i went into the deal on the condition that we would move out of it fast enough that our then-one year old son would never remember the place. Needless to say, that didn't happen

However, we at least had a yard when we were in a trailer Honestly, the people who would judge you for where you live aren't worth stressing about. I bet you have a lot more room than we do, squished in this apartment!

So, I am contemplating a personal loan to buy the rest of the baby stuff that we need. I think we'd only need like $500, and about the only thing I do have going for me financially is pretty decent credit DH thinks it's a stupid idea tho, and wants me to wait til he gets a job someplace. However, not even the gas stations are calling him back :

on the upside , the foodstamp denial was just a paperwork mistake, and they said i should hear something by either next week or the end of this week. Great time for them to have a paperwork error, huh? *sigh*

This week just keeps gietting tighter... I don't even want to go into detail (I am a big believer in manifestation) but I am actually scared this week. Just saying 'hey' to all of you that understand. sigh...

Hi everyone
Well, I went to the Unemployment Office and they told me I had to do it on the phone So I did then I had to wait 45 minutes for an actual person to come on and tell me that my application has been accepted, and then to schedule a hearing. So, I have a hearing on Oct 9th (I'm really uncomfortable about the possibility that I might have to talk to them)
Then I went to my State worker to tell her that my "circumstances" have changed and there were around 90 people waiting to talk to someone in the office!!!!!!
I haven't seen that many people in there in a looonnnggg time

I hate that! Everytime I call in for something it's a 30 min wait on hold, just for them to tell me that the notice they sent me was incorrect, and they have everything they need

We are going to have to break our grocery budget this week and hit up the yearly caselot sale for some food storage. We did this last year and I have no regrets! Cans of beans for .57 each! Can't beat that anywhere unless it's WIC and it's free! Also last year they had 20lbs of brown rice for $10. I think MIL will go in on it this year with us, since we live "together"

We just got our FS last week and I only have $30 left
post #336 of 397
LizzyQ, that sounds like a good reason to break the budget.
I found a listing in the on-line newspaper for a full-time cashier at Mickey Finn's that was just posted today 9/23!!! Sooo....I'm going there tomorrow morning. Wish me luck :cross
Maybe, things are starting to look up, I hope.

I have an interview on Monday!!!! : It is as an infant teacher in a local daycare/preschool. It is 30 hours a week, which is a tad more than I want with going to school, but hopefully the pay will be enough to get us ahead a bit more. I just want to be able to pay my bills on time and not feel afraid that my car will run out of gas anymore.

I also have applications/resumes in at a TON of places that I am so crossing my fingers for. One is an absolute dream job for me, but I haven't heard back yet, and was hoping to hear by today. I don't have a rejection yet, which I will definitely get if I don't get an interview, so I am still holding out a tiny bit of hope.

The daycare job will be pretty good, except that it gets out at 5:30, and DS's preschool closes at 5:30, so I will need to find someone to drive him over to me every day after he gets done, or at least keep him at their house for 15 minutes or so until I can get over to pick him up. I am not so sure I will be able to find someone to do that, but I am willing to give it a try. The infant room is in a brand spanking new facility that I am sure is beautiful. I would so love to work with littles in a location like that!!

I know I probably shouldn't even type what I am about to but. Here it goes.My husband can be so stupid sometimes! I can't even come up for a better word for it and he pisses me off so much. He had his check taken off direct deposit because I closed our bank account. Fine. Well today he tells me OH I lost my wallet like last week. HE NEVER mentioned this all freaking week. He can't get his check cashed without ID. I can't find the damn wallet anywhere, everything is 3 weeks or more late, shut off,etc WE NEED HIS MONEY NOW!! He acts all dandy about it. I called to see if he can get a replacement licenses but now for security they send the licenses in the mail and it takes 10 days. I can't wait 10 days. I have bills that have to be done NOW and hes being a freaking idiot. I have no clothes and haven't gotten any since I was 17 (so 5 years ago and 2 kids ago) so I mentioned maybe going to the thrift store to find a couple shirts and skirts since we will have a couple extra dollars and he got INSANELY mad at me. But yet he can go and spend 5-10.00 a day on ciggs, drinks, whatever? Yeah offf!!! He better find his dang wallet I don't care if he has to shit out another ID that check better get cashed today. I am pissy.
