Announcing the arrival of Jonathan Cooper McComb.

He was born 8/26/09 into his daddy's hands (with both hands crossed across his chest) at 11:57 p.m. at home. 8 pounds even and 21 inches long.

Birth story:

I woke up about 4:00 a.m. with contractions. I timed a couple then went downstairs to watch t.v. I was able to sleep through them until they started waking me up every 5 -10 min. or so. THen I finally got up about 5:30 a.m. and started getting things ready for the day. About 6:30 i went to the bathroom and noticed a lot of pink blood and knew that this time it was the real deal. So I called the Midwife at 7:00 and she said she would be on her way after she got her kids off to school. So, I just went about getting the girls ready for school and the morning routine.

Then I called my mom to come and get Eve and she said that she couldn't because she had to work today. THat is when the labor slowly stopped. By 11:00, when the midwife got here, it had all but stopped completely. Oh yeah, at 10:00 I was taking a bath with Eve and my water broke. So my water broke but there were no contractions. She went to lunch and I called my huband home from work because I thought things would start picking up now that my water was broken. We had lunch and still nothing so I sent him back to work and the mw went to the library. About 4:00 p.m. they started picking up more and at 5:00 I called hubby home from work and the mw back. I FELT like I was in active labor but I was still only dilated to a 3. So, that is the way my evening went. Labor began to get hard about 6:00 and I slowly dilated to a 4 between 6 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Then, when she checked me at 10:45 I was an 8/9 and by 11:47 I was pushing. He was born 10 minutes later. My DH caught him by accident because the mw had to squeeze his shoulders (since his arms were crossed across his chest) so that I wouldn't tear and so she just started telling him "catch your baby, catch your baby NOW!" It was awesome. I have wanted to him catch the other 2 girls but he was always too scared and moved somewhere else at that moment.

On a side note, the mw thinks he was definitely late and that I should have had him 2 weeks ago when I had 2 days of prodromal labor but due to the crossed arms, I didn't. That is why he is so little because they start to lose weight and he rubbed his hair off the front of his head already and the placenta was starting to fall off. Also, he was a twin. There were 2 umbilical cords and at some point (early on) the placenta absorbed the other one. It would have been identical.....

That's great news! Congratulations! I didn't know that crossed arms made it difficult to birth. Interesting that there was a twin, too!
