i had lots with my first pregnancy beginning around month 5. This time, i felt them earlier around month 4.
They are definitely uncomfortable and when I have one I immediately have to go to the bathroom b/c the pressure makes my bladder feel like its about to explode.
My midwife is concerned about them b/c she said that too many bh in one hour (more than 5) is a pre-indicator for preterm labor. I say that's hogwash, based on all the studies I've read, most of which conclude that bh are not an indicator of early or effective labor. Basically, the studies that are out there contradict one another and they can't decipher what they want to decipher!
At one point, my midwife even mentioned that if I keep having them she might have to put me on bedrest. Yeah right. That'd eat up all of my FMLA and I'm not going on bedrest for what you "think" could happen. She also recommended a test that would give me an idea of my chances for preterm labor (can't remember what it was) but i declined. Since I declined, she sent me for an u/s to make sure that there wasn't too much fluid around baby (since I am also measuring 3 weeks ahead) and to make sure my cervix was still closed. Everything was fine and I honestly think she's just a worrywart. I had so many bh's with my dd that I don't think they're the least bit worrisome.
I had a very effective labor with my dd but I am inclined to think maybe it's a coincidence considering that I know many women who had long/intense labors who also had many many bh's.
I am trying to hydrate myself a little better since I've found that the less water I drink in a day, the more I have.
