too late to cd with a one year old

i have a one year old dd and have always wanted to cd, but have always been overwhelmed with where to begin. no on i know cd's and grandmothers just remember the old days of cd

she is in daycare during the day-they won't cd, but i would love to start at home, she goes thru 5-7 diapers a day at school, and it is killing our budget.

where do i start? what do i need? is it too late?

thanks

Well I personally don't think its to late we just started at 15 months. But we don't do day care so we get the savings all day. But still could be worth it just might not need a huge stash.

I think it would still be worth it. How much you spend totally depends on what kind of diapers you want to get. If you think you might have more kids, the savings will be even greater because you should be able to keep using the dipes, but you should still save $$ either way.

Prefolds would be the cheapest option. There are millions of fitted diapers and pocket diapers and all-in-one diapers out there. Costs vary. Do you know what you want?

How many hours is she at school? I'm thinking you might want 5-6 diapers for the evening, then one for overnight (per day). So if you think you might wash every other day you'd probably want 12 diapers or so, plus a night time solution. (Our night diapers are the same as our day, just with added absorbancy, or a wool cover, depending on whether we are using a pocket diaper or a fitted diaper.

But it totally depends on how often you normally change her and how many hours we're talking.

Its never too late. I would suggest getting a nice one size diaper like a Mommy's Touch aio. They are very user friendly. We personally use them. They will grow with your baby so your not having to buy up in size. How many diapers is she using at home? A good rule of thumb is a baby will use about 12 diapers a day.

Its never to late to remove harmful chemicals from your babies environment.

Prefolds and covers/wraps would be the least expensive route to go.

You could probably start with about 15 changes, enough for approximately 2 half days (7 each and one for the wash time) and 2-3 covers.

I had my sons in cloth, had a major/emergency surgery that left me in bed for almost 4 months and 5 more months of recovery. We used disposables for 7.5 months of that time. I put the youngest back into cloth for the last 1.5 years until he was PT'd.

totally do-able.

Good luck.

I just wanted to say, it is not too late! I first found out cloth diapers were actually a current viable option for diapering, and not just the way it 'used to' be when my second child was a year old. I decided against cloth because I figured at 1 it wasn't worth doing. After cding our third, I wish I would have switched, even when she was 1. Not only for the $ savings, but because it's so much healthier for all involved (the child, the enviroment, etc.).

We didn't start until DS was 13 months old! If we can do it, so can you.

My neighbor started with her son when he was two, and he actually thanked her for switching.

Gotta Love this!

We switched when DD was 11 months. Our awesome care provider was happy to use pockets/AIOs with her. She completely refused to wear sposies once we switched.

We went mainly with one-size - Bumgenius, Mommy's Touch, etc, and they fit her until she potty trained around 3. Great investment. And we're having a second child now, so I get to buy some cute tiny fluff, and then reuse the bigger stuff!

It isn't too late to start! Your baby could be in diapers for another 3 years. I had a LATE potty-learner (my oldest daughter).

Prefolds and covers would be the most economicable choice. I like Bummis covers.
