Electrolyte Recipe or Foods for Diarrhea?

My 16 month old had his first real stomach virus. He vomited all night last Monday, and he has been having 1-2 instances of diarrhea each day for the last week. He has a very reduced appetite and is sleeping a bit more than usual, but has no other symptoms. He's mostly happy, playful, and energetic when he is awake. It's been one week though, and he has lost about a pound. I'm nursing as much as he is willing when I am with him, but I'm wondering if I should be giving him something with electrolytes in it.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an electrolyte solution to use, or some good foods to give to help recover from diarrhea? I was considering Pedialyte, but I'm concerned about the food coloring, sugars, and other additives.

From what I remember when dd was nursing (and someone correct me please if im wrong) breast milk is actually very very easy to digest and has basically built in electrolytes? Back when I was nursing dd and she would get a stomach bug I would always nurse her as much as I could talk her into!
have you tried giving him any probiotics? that might help his stomach reregulate itself? I would reccomend it over eating yogurt as that might bug a sensitive stomach. all I do when dd has a stomach thing is the "bratt" diet type thing, which is bananas, rice, applesauce, tea and toast. I know the don't really advocate a 100% of this anymore because its restrictive I would give him anything he wants (within reason).

Coconut water.
Mineral water.
Nettles infusion.
Bone broth.

ETA: I'd definitely include whole food probiotics, especially s. boulardii and lactobacillus, and bifidum.

Question about Probiotics

I'm sure this is going to sound like a really dumb question, but I'm not sure how to give probiotics to my son. I've never actually taken them myself, although I think I bought some acidophilus pills a while ago thinking I should take them. I never did.

Would anyone be willing to give me some specifics? Can I buy them at Kroger or Walgreens? What should I buy? How would I get LO to eat it?
Thanks!!! :

you can buy a childerns specific one, but truly to me I cannot see the difference in them. I have the capsules (so they have the loose powder inside) and I just cut off the end and mix half the tab in the a.m. with a spoonful of applesauce and make her eat it and then same in the pm. I used to mix it into the whole container of applesauce but then she wouldn't eat it all!!! silly kid!

Culturelle is available at many places and would be helpful - most pharmacies and Walmart. You can open the capsule and dump it in something cold (yogurt, applesauce, beverage), or mix it with a bit of water to make a slurry and feed staright, or just dump it in his mouth.
