Curious about the HPT lines

I'm just wondering something and have not been successful with my google research on this:

what's the deal with the varying shades on the hpts? I know it's related to hormone levels, right?

with DD, I had the faintest, teensiest line about 12 days after my period was due.

This time I have a really strong, bold, there's not mistaking you are pregnant line and it's only 5/6 days past when my period would normally be starting.

Did baby implant earlier this time?

The line shows up when your levels of hcg are sufficient enough for the sensitivity of the HPT. I've read implantation can range any where from 6-12 days so that's when the hcg begins to be produced by your body (your body technically won't know you are pregnant when the egg is just traveling fertilized through your system). This time around you might have just had a much earlier implantation. Or you might have used a much more sensitive test this time (different tests have different sensitivities). You never know!
