hi all!

what are your fave few board books? i'd love recommendations/reviews.

our DD is 8 mo. and beginning to show an interest so i'd like to get a few for the next year or so. i'm particularly interested in fun rhythms/rhymes and storylines w/open-minded, life-affirming, or just plain silly storylines.

thanks!

Happy Baby Animals by Roger Priddy - she's 21 months & has liked that one for at least a year. Another Priddy book that I remember her liking when she was your LO's age was Squishy Turtle & Friends.

My First Pets Board Book & My First Farm Board Book, both DK publications - she likes all the animals and tractors.

Bible Stories for Tiny Tots - more pictures of animals.

Moo, Baa, La La La and The Belly Button Book by Sandra Boynton. Oh wait, the Belly Button Book is my favorite.

Anything by sandra Boyton. Her books have great rhythm. I think The Going to Bed Book was replaced twice at my house, just because of "wear". We've also replaced Good Night, Moon twice, too.

Another vote for The Going to Bed Book ~ that was a favorite of dd's. She also loved There's a Wocket in my Pocket, The Shape of Me and Other Stuff, and the lift the flaps books by Karen Katz.

Goodnight Moon
Jamberry
The Going to Bed Book
More More More Said the Baby
Big Red Barn

Goodnight Moon
I Am a Bunny
Bunny My Honey
Hush Little Baby (this one is a spin-off from the lullaby, except a lot lovelier in my opinion...for example, instead of saying "I'm going to buy you a diamond ring", it will say something like "we'll listen to the crickets sing"...I can't remember the exact words, just that we love it!)
Karen Katz books

Another Sandra Boyton fan here.

I have a couple faves-I love Barnyard Dance and Moo, Baa, La la la. My DD reads the latter to us often and has since she was about 2.5, she just loves that book.

The Napping House
One Hungry Monster and Hungry Monster ABC (my one year old's favorite )
Tumble Bumble

How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? (it took me forever to find this in board book form, but it is out there)
I Love You Through and Through
Not a reading book, but my kids love the pictures in DK Publishing's "My First Words."

My kids must be the odd ones out, because they're really disinterested in The Going to Bed Book. I was kind of disappointed in it too.

Definitely Good Night Gorilla.

I also very much liked Where is God? which has a whimsical, universal approach (God is in the last bite of birthday cake, in goodnight hugs, in the fly caught in the spider's web, etc.)

Books that are songs (Itsy Bitsy Spider, Five Little Ducks, Head Shoulders Knees & Toes)

Barnyard Banter

No, we never liked sandra boynton that much. We prefer Dr. Suess and Eric Carle. Oh and Mo Williams.

DD started out on picture books at about 8 months. Her favorite series was That's not my... by Usborne. These book are awesome and they really keep babies' attentions.

For board books:

Bear Snores On
Jamberry
Is your mama a llama?
My many colored days
The red ripe strawbewrry
we're going on a bear hunt
Quick as a Cricket
The runaway bunny
Goodnight moon
The snowy day

We stopped investing in board books at about 18 months. We now check out about 15 books from the library weekly. Her faves that we now own:

Caps for sale
Horton Hears a who (all the Horton books for that matter)
The butter battle book
Mrs. Brices's mice
The fire cat

We are now reading short little chapter books like:

Little Bear
frog and toad

I would be tickled if a little kid got to read one of DD's fave books because of this. Let me know.

Gotta go check that out. Thanks.

ETA: Will also be checking out Where is god?

I am glad to see so many votes for Jamberry. It is very deserving.
