Hi everyone! Baby Niles came home with me this afternoon and he's doing ok. The results of the echo didn't come back but the ped doc thinks that there was nothing to worry about and gave us walking papers! There is still some weird drama with the Bdad, but Niles is home with us for now! Court for the bparents will be in about 3 weeks. Pins and needles till then. DD has been utterly terrific w/ the baby and I am so thrilled and proud of her.

What about offering a discount (in addition to the current free shipping)? Think that would work? Or a raffle entry with each order? Gah, I don't know.
Maybe I should feature seasonal/earth friendly books right now.

Z- like many well known/established pagan leaders, she has some "colorful" moments. You may want to browse some of her writings to get a feel for her philosophy... she tends towards the Dianic end of the spectrum with a blend of female focused shamanism and wiccan ritual. She has made a few "out there" suggestions which tend to color people's impressions of her work, so it may be best to just look at her writings and avoid reviews at first.

Personally I have owned a few of her books, she has some neat rituals, but in the end her ideas didn't resonate for me.

I had a cider donut at dd1's fall festival yesterday... mmmmmm. One of the local apple orchards makes them using cider instead of water to make the dough. They make really tiny batches (it's a small counter sized donut machine) and they're much good yum.

We're having a yellow jacket population explosion around here. There were hundreds at the festival and then today it was even in the paper. Apparently they can chew through drywall so nests on the soffits of homes might lead to wasps inside come spring!

huh. so are yj not affected by the same stuff bees are? i've been reading theories about the bee shortage (though, we dont seem to have a problem here... although, we have a lot of the africanized ones....)

i am being soooo whiney. i can not believe how much this finger is affecting my whole body. ugh. and i seem to have reached some sort of level of not being able to be content here... that doesnt make sense, but i used to go in cycles-- get frustrated then find a vibe again-- and i just havent really found one since we got back from our summer trip. it's weird, and sort of like really bad senior-itis, and i just am at a loss as to what to do--ie, tapping and beads havent helped! sigh.

I can believe it- simple little things will set my day all wrong, like forgetting to put my contacts in. If I wear my glasses, something about the lack of peripheral vision makes me feel more closed, guarded, scared, or frumpy. Then I wonder, "why do I feel xyz?" and look in the mirror, "Oh yeah.."

We had our big meal of the day in the mid-day, so now we're all kinda... blah what to do.... maybe I'll mix it up and make waffles for 'dinner'.

YJ aren't hit by colony collapse... they're totally different critters!

YJs are aggressive predators, eat meat and insects as well as juice/nectar, sting and bite several times without injury to themselves, build hives from wood/fiber, and are generally unpleasant neighbors.

Honey bees are generally not aggressive, they eat pollen and honey for the most part, sting just once, build hives from wax, and are in danger of not being around much longer if we can't figure out the whole colony collapse picture.

There's a lot of work being done on this at Cornell, and a few of my friends keep bees (I wish I could but my MIL is deathly allergic and we don't know about the kiddos yet)...

Those cider donuts sound awesome! I think we'll make caramel apples tomorrow, if I can get roomie to lend me 8oz of milk. We almost never use milk and I'd have to make a special trip just for it, and I bet they don't sell it in 8oz containers!

YAY for Niles coming home! DOK, I agree with aweyn-- pre-holiday sale? But I've never sold things, so I may be talking out my boo-tay. Any answers on the pine dilemma yet? Hanging on pins and needles for you about Tuesday. I hope you get some good, solid non-scary answers.

We've had hard, cold rain all day It hasn't been above 60*. I LOVE this weather. It's supposed to be warmer the rest of the week, during the day (mid-high 70s, even 80 maybe ) but at night, I heard in the 40s Hopefully it's finally time to put on the flannel sheets!

Ok, I'm exhausted. Went to a autumn get-together tonight. I'm so not used to socializing like that anymore. I wanted to go play with the kids instead of doing idle chit chat with the grown ups. Still, I forced myself to talk to a few people and then I sought out the hostess (my friend) and just stuck to her. tee hee. I gave up about 9pm. Such a party animal, heh?

ah, there's my regional bias again... here, bees are aggressive & to be feared and wasps are (comparatively) harmless annoyances... so, having many times heard that "yellow jackets" are mean and will attack, i've always imagined they must be bees. (which, i grant you, doesnt explain why i distinguished my attacker as a bee and not a yellow jacket, except having a long held notion that we dont have them here....)

i wasnt even thinking a discount, more a "get books now for the holidays and beat the rush/be done shopping" kind of thing.... it's all in the... presentation, lol. Evening mamas. Today was a beautiful day. In the 60's, bright sun, crisp breeze. I am spending my might looking for my kitty, Mr. ShickAdance (my DD named him) This guy loves the outdoors, but I worry about fishercats so don't let him stay out at night.

I borrowed a few of Z's books from a friend a long time ago, but never bought any for myself.

I can't wait to see pretty leaves. Some started turning already but some have just turned brown and fell. We've had such a weird summer that I think the trees/plants have suffered.

OK, well, that's just weird

Anyway, people all the time call yellow jackets "bees" even if they are not-- I did that until just a couple years ago. I think most people think they are bees. Most people say "I was stung by a bee" when they mean yellow jacket. IME. I still say it, too, sometimes, for simplicity's sake, even if it's not correct

Same weather here. It couldn't be more gorgeous. Breezy-- I have clothes on the line, but I don't think they'll dry before dark.
My kitty-- I had been home for a couple hours when I realized she was not shadowing me like usual. So I figured that she was having a nap-- couldn't find her anywhere. Got worried that she'd gotten outside (she's indoor only). My roommate's been gone for awhile, but I didn't see her leave, so no idea how long she'd been gone.
Got a wild hair-- and found her in the roommate's closet Poor kitty! I hope she didn't pee in there.

Us, too! I see lots of leaves on the ground already, brown ones, but not much changing of colors in the trees. That can't mean anything good.

Heh sometimes it DOES seem like the kids have way more fun than the grown ups doesn't it! I'm pretty much the same way, because if my kids are there I'm not comfortable leaving them unsupervised... whereas some parents just turn them loose and don't even see them again until the end of the get together

I hope I can get the site to cooperate! I don't know if the $ we're expecting will get there in time for the end of this month though... but the books I picked out would be very special christmas presents (for boys.. ok, and me lol) so I'll cross my fingers!

I was up till 1130 coughing.. then up at 2am doing the same until nearly 3. I have the worst headache.. and I coughed hard enough to rupture some capilliaries which was rather dramatic looking Can we say OVER IT!?!?!
