Found a silverfish in my cloth diaper bin!

ew ew and ew. My youngest is about to turn two, so at this point I just change him on the bed or in the bathroom. I have a fabric bin on the floor in the bedroom with a pile of prefolds and some thirsties covers and 3 wool covers. Yesterday I was refolding the messy pile of prefolds while putting the clean ones back, and I spotted a single silverfish. :

I've managed to never have these things before. I have cedar blocks in our closet, but they were not near this. There is no moisture to speak of. It has been a nonhumid month as well (I'm in Ill.). No books in that room even. It's pretty clutter free in there, and I dust and mop often. I'm going to do a throrough vacuum in the crevices. I washed the dipes on sanitary and am washing the wool as well, but now what!?

Does this mean there are more? What else should I do? SPray with lavender? Get more cedarblocks? I'm totally icked out, and afraid I will find more. I thought they liked wool, but from what i read that's not true. Is it just the pile of cotton that attracted them? I switched over to disposable wipes and am half wondering if that left open could have contributed to the moisture?? Sometimes a prefold sits on it open and it gets wet. Grabbing at straws here, trying to figure out why it was in there.

They like paper...

I dunno. I don't think I'd panic or anything. As far as bugs go they are less annoying than most. They tend not to infest the food or eat the clothes.

I don't think it's worth worrying about

They gross me out. I thought my reaction was mild compared to the skeevy jeevies I read about in other threads on them here! Anyway what I fear is that there is more. I don't feel like having a permanent silverfish problem. From what I read they can do more damage to clothes than moths and do infest food.

I read somewhere to leave a damp rolled up newspaper out overnight. Then in the morning, dispose of it and the ickies that reside within. I imagine that if you baited and trapped enough of them, you'd solve any problem. But I agree, blech!! Silverfish and earwigs totally creep me out.

Let's put it this way, we have a lot of silverfish. They have never bothered to move out of the bathrooms. I never see them in the kitchen or bedrooms. I don't think food and clothes are their first choice.

I just moved into a house that has silverfish. Joy. Like moving isn't stressful enough. I bought a large bottle of diotomatious earth at the garden centre and have sprinkled it everywhere. Part of our basement is unfinished and there are little nooks and crannies all over the place. I plan to alternate vaccuming and sprinkling till I stop seeing the little UAVs. My packrat dh has about 30 boxes of books in the basement which I would secretly like to burn.

I haven't seen any since, so I'm sort of hoping that they aren't there, *crosses fingers*. I'm thinking it may have come up from the basement with the laundry. I know we have random spiders and occasional bugs down there, and I see that as somewhat inevitable. I mostly freaked out b/c I wasn't sure if silverfish exist in the kazillions once you see one, and b/c it was in the bedroom! That is seriously one of our barest, cleanest rooms (I find clutter free= easier for me to maintain and clean).

Anyway. You did more than me. That stuff is supposed to work.
