fitteds vs prefolds

I Used cloth with my son. I started with prefolds and wrap style covers. Then I dabbled a little with the pocket style. I had major stink issues so I went back to prefolds. I thought were peachy.
I keep eyeballing the cute fitted dipes for this little one. The are clearly more expensive. Are they that much better then prefolds? What is so great about fitted dipes?

I have this battle in my head on a regular basis.

Here's how fitteds are better than prefolds: They contain poop better, especially when it's runny. They're easier to use coverless for breathability--no pins necessary. And they're easier to put on a kid who's wiggling or asleep in a weird position.

On the other hand, you don't (usually) have the pin/Snappi/trifold/use like an AI2 flexibility that you do with prefolds, they're not as easy to care for, and, comparatively, they cost an arm and a leg.

I always end up deciding prefolds are better in the long run--but not by much....

My stash will be 1/2 prefold and 1/2 fitted
love prefolds because I can make them fit pretty much every child at every shape, lve the cost the material how they wash up IMHO nothing contains messy poo like a well snapied prefold love the classic I'm a super mom feel I get when using them love I can pretty much make my own AI2 with a simple cover and prefold folded in thirds. Love they can double as burb cloths nursing cover ups changing pads blankets cleaning clothes ect... LOVe them!!
Love my fitted love I can buy them in a one size and pretty much get a workhorse diaper to fit from about 10-35lbs with little to no issue (MEOS) Love I can snap and go and let DD run around coverless I love that daddy gets a diaper that doesn't confuse him love that baby can run around with out the diaper bunching and shifting like prefolds can do love the cute extra fluffiness in the not quite fit stage... Love the convience
And frankly my CD fun comes in my covers my diapers are plain simple workhourse will take many years of washing and hash cycles I don't like bothing with a lot of poly fabrics or worrying about prints I want simple and functional.. My fun comes in covers

I've used prefolds with a few (one size) fitteds for my now 19 month old. I'm buying all fitteds to use with the new baby. It just seems like whenever the diaper laundry is clean, the fitteds are what we reach for first. I also never have blow out issues with the fitteds like I do with the prefolds (we pin them). Fitteds do cost more up front, but regardless, you're still saving money over disposables, and with the exception of the few I bought used, after 18 months +/- of use they're still in perfect shape.

Like the other posters, I love both for different reasons.

I love fitteds for a coverless system for EC. They absorb a lot more than training pants and easily catch one pee.

For regular diapering, imo, nothing beats the prefold/cover system. I keep going back to it for ease of use, affordability, flexibility etc.etc.

If you get one size fitteds, you will get your money's worth. And no need to go back and buy larger sizes. I've found I like a large stash of one size fitteds, for daycare/grandma/daddy/etc., about 8 pf's (per child), and lots of inserts/doublers. I like the flexibilty of pf's, but I like the that I don't have to keep buying dipes especially with #2 due any day now. They both have their place in my stash tho.
