Hi everyone! I know this is a silly question but I had to ask as I know I will get some good advice. I am signing my 3 yo ds up for a soccer class. I can't decide which one to do because of all the things going on. There is a time in the evening that my dh could come to and would be fun for all of us to watch him at. The other is a time in the middle of the day and my dh wouldn't be able to come, which is some of the fun as he's really excited.
The problem I am having is where my mind is going with all this. We selectively/delay vax. He has only had his 3 dtap's (started in April), a prevnar and has had 3 polios. I have really hesitated on the HIB (although it still scares me quite a bit for him to be without it but I'm not quite there yet. ) The period after the shot they are supposed to be vulnerable to an invasive HIB infection has scared me off of it, also my oldest dd had a bad reaction to her 4th one. All this to say, I am having a hard time because I think one class is more likely to have kids coming from a day care setting in it and another class would more than likely have stay at home moms/children. My doc is very much on board with me selectively/ delaying but she says if he were in a day care setting (she would very much urge the HIB because of the way they transmit things so easily). She said this about my 4th ds, 10 1/2 months but it goes for all my kids really.
So, I know it's silly but I worry about this, along with the whole swine flu thing. I asked her if day care was just like school (because my 3 yo also has 2 older sibs and all are going to school), she said they don't usually come down with the same illnesses. Some things older kids are more prone to get, some things younger kids. Last year we took a soccer class for him and after 2 weeks he got strep and all my kids were sick when my 4th ds was born. It was a very scary time for us and I hope to never go through that again.
Should I stick with the class that has more siblings likely to be children that are home (although I've seen some pretty sick kids of my mom friends who are sahm's) or just do what would be more fun for us? I told you it was silly. I think my main concern is about HIB. I'm very conflicted about it. although I just did read a study that said HIB protection goes on in breastfed babies up to 10 years later....has anyone read this?
