Block vs stick crayons?

Which do kids seem to enjoy more/get more use out of?? I'm sure it varies to some degree......these will be for my DS on his b-day/Christmas this year-he will be 3.
Thanks!

interested in this since I too am planning on buying some for my 3 year old-to-be dd. I was leaning for the blocks since all she does is break regular crayons and peel off the paper :

I think I know what you mean by block crayons. We prefer the stick crayons around here, people say the chunky/blocks are easier for them to hold but they aren't for my ds...ds can't control them at all. He's been working with stick crayons forever..he's just turned 3

Hmmm...decisisons, decisions. Ah yes, the breaking and peeling of the stick crayons....yes, he is pretty obsessed with that. I don't know how he'd handle the blocks......well, I KNOW he will peel the sticks and break them so maybe I'll go with the blocks for now.

Thanks for both sides!

BTW, where are you going to be buying them from? I haven't been able to find good prices anywhere really. I also want to buy her the Ferby triangular pencils as well.

I really do not like children using stick crayons or even Ferby pencils (which are triangular pencils) before kindergarten or first grade because it promotes bad pencil grips (if the kids use a pencil before they are ready motor skill wise, they may form bad habits). This is also the philosophy of Handwriting Without Tears, which is a handwriting program used by occupational therapists, teachers, and homeschoolers. So I vote block crayons before 5 or even 6.

I don't know if they were THE best price, but www.atoygarden.com had the stockmar crayons on sale, and I had to get some other things from there as well, so I went ahead and got them.

I got the block crayons, as well as the Ferby pencils (interesting about the proper way to hold them...I'll 1st wait and see if DS is interested) plus blackboard chalk and the glass crayons. My parents are getting him an easel, and we have lots of paper around that we recycle. I am going to wait on paints for a while yet, see ho DS does with this stuff.
