How soon can you do a Mei Tai back carry?

I"ve got a Mei Tai I pretty much love and have been using from Day 1, but am beginning to want DD on my back, so I'm more free to do work. She's 4 mo, 16 pounds, good head control, but can't sit up or grab my neck, obviously. In the front carry, I'll put her legs out to the side, but it still seems kind of wide for her, and sometimes we'll keep one leg tucked in.

How soon have you all moved to a back carry with a mei tai? I"m thinking if someone else helped me put it on? I can't figure how I'd do it myself?

Is there another carrier I should be considering? For, say, picking 200 lbs of tomatoes, sorting and loading up while carrying dd?

I think your lo is plenty old enough for your back. As far as techniques on how to get her there, try searching for 'how to' videos- there are a ton online.

How old can a baby go in your back in a good mei tai? The day they are born.

Seriously, you can put a newborn in your back in a good, well made/designed mei tai. I had my second in a mei tai the second week of life.

There are more than one way to do it and for sure practice over something soft or with someone behind you, but here's one way:

And here are even more back carry instructions:

Thank you!!! I've been spending so much time picking tomatoes, or figuring out how to get them picked, I haven't spent the time to find those resources. That Santa Toss is awesome. I'll have to practice as soon as dd wakes up. Er, as soon as I get done paying bills...

I was about convinced I needed to by a Beco, but maybe I can work this out with the mei tai with some practice!
