peeing over the top of the diaper

My son is now 5mo old. He tends to sleep on his stomach and usually sleeps from 11pm-930am. When I go get him up in the morning the front of his pajamas are wet and so is where he was laying. He seems to pee out the top of his diaper when he's sleeping on his stomach and I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there's anything I can do to help it so he's not all wet. Thank you!
(Oh, and since he's a boy I do always make sure he's pointed down into his diaper lol)

Could it be that he's peeing in the normal place but getting a compression leak from lying on top of the wet diaper for so long?

Another layer in front would give more absorbancy. He may not be peeing over the top, but it's getting soaked and when full, he pees again and it drains off instead of soaking. Add more layers.

ETA: that is assuming he's in cloth...if not in cloth, I'm not sure what you can do.

with cloth fold a doubler and place it in front of his penis before you put the diaper up. this will due 2 things one put lots of extra fabric for absorbing the pee, 2 it will fill the gap incase it is that he is getting erect when peeing ans shooting up.

I put a second prefold folded in thirds & then in half right in front. It means he's really bulky in the front but I haven't had any overflowing dipes since I started doing this.

Thank you everybody. He actually wears throw away diapers though. And I think the problem is it all runs to the front and the diaper can't absorb that much.

That is probably the case then - funny that everyone assumed cloth and I did at first too until I read this post Maybe you could give cloth a try - even just for night! We only have leak issues at night if I feed my son a few times through the night w/o changing him (which I know in that I'm going to have to deal with that in the morning, but I'm too tired to change him at the time ) or the case where my wonderful hubby got up and changed him in the middle of the night and put the diaper on backwards and loose Otherwise with the extra absorbency we put in the front of the diaper (as my son is also a tummy sleeper), it works awesome!

What brand are you using? We found the huggies NAtural fit the best for our tummy sleeper once we went to disposables at night. The assorbancy is really concentrated up front and had a hugher rise than other diapers.

If you still want to use sposies, you can always add a cloth insert like a joeybunz. That way you aren't going completely to CD's if you don't want to.

My friend who used disposables always went up a size at night.

You could also try an 'overnight' diaper. We often use Huggies Overnights and I have seen that Pampers has a diaper with 'extra absorbancy' now, but I haven't tried them.

You could stick a Kotex inside the diaper.

Thank you everybody, I will try some of these things. I currently use Pampers Swaddlers

I've heard of people using a wool diaper cover over the top of their disposible. Or adding more absorbancy is a good idea, too.
