Help me start CDing again.

Thread Starter
I did really good w/DS about CDing, but w/my 3rd, I have been mostly using sposies There are a few reasons & I thought I would post & see if anyone can help me get past them so I can go back to cding w/baby #4.

1. The smell. They always have a slight urine smell. I have stripped them, but maybe not enough times? How many times should I run the cycle? And it's just hot water, right? When I wash, I do a soak cycle in cold w/just baking powder & then wash in hot in Astro (aldi's brand b/c I've heard it's good for that) & I throw vinegar in a downy ball. I do normally throw them in the dryer or line dry.

2. My FB seep. Are they just old & need to be tossed? Or is there anything I can do to make them "water" proof again.

3. I am out of the house A LOT more then when I 1st started cding. I seem to always have leaks & I got tired of it. Any advice for when you're out all day.

Can you help me?

Congrats on surprise #4 And I hope you can get back into CDing!

1. I would try a different detergent. We were having the ammonia smell no matter how much we stripped when we were using Purex F&C and when we switched to Soap Nuts (and now trying a variety of others) we don't have that problem as often (like when we need to strip, they get stinky, but it's not an every day occurence). Also, take a look at this article: http://www.diaperpin.com/clothdiaper...le_vinegar.asp

2. Check the PUL - make sure it isn't peeling off on the inside at all. Also it is good to dry them for a little bit every once in a while to "seal" the PUL a little more, but you don't want to over dry it either.

3. We don't have leaks when we're in or out unless the diaper was put on wrong (usually by someone else like a sitter), or if it was too loose around the legs, or in the case where we used cream w/o a liner so our BG's and other pockets were repelling the urine. (oops) As long as you have a good diaper and it is working properly, you shouldn't be having leaks.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to help! I hope these were helpful!
