Feeling like my home isn't warm, cosy, inviting etc - Page 2

Houseplants make a huge difference!! I'm sort of in a plant kick but even DH commented on how it just brightens things up.

I agree about throw pillows, blankets- think things that you want to touch. We have one blanket we keep draped over one of the chairs because DD always uses it and it is sooo soft.

Add personal touches. This to me makes it feel like MY home. We have a ton of framed family pics ( I collect picture frames) some are old ones of DH or myself growing up. Also I just found some cute really small frames that I'm going to frame little notes DH leaves me and put on my night stand.

Open your windows up to let in the most light and maybe add smaller lamps to rooms that are naturally darker.

If your backsplash and cabinets are white in your kitchen, then I would paint your walls a color other than white or beige. Mine is a dark sagey green. Burnt orange is nice or even some greyish purples (my mom who decorates for a living says that purples are in right now). Plants are a great idea. Rugs on hard wood adds alot. Pictures on walls are a huge help. It adds interest without cluttering up surfaces. I would add a throw that isn't the same color as the sofa. Curtains in a contrasting color is nice too. My family room walls are beige but the curtains and throws are a deep red.

Do you have a friend with an eye for this that could come over and give some objective tips? My mom does this for me b/c I super suck at decorating. She was just over yesterday helping my pick out paint colors for my bedrooms/bathrooms/office.

This made all the difference in my home for me.

We moved into our house last year, and there were horrible cloth-paper vertical blinds in the living room with big boxy things up on top. I hated them.

When my kids were done PL'ing, I sold all the diapers and bought curtains!

Having cloth instead of the wood/wallpapery paperboard stuff made all the difference.

I have also put another bookshelf in my LR, which also makes a big difference for me. Lots of books around makes me happy.
