DS is almost 2 and has started experimenting with spitting huge mouthfuls of water out. His crib sheet is soaked (which I don't care about, at least it's contained), his shirts are soaked, and worst of all is when he's at the table, b/c then I have to mop it up (and it's gross/embarrassing for him to do at a restaurant). I tell him "no spitting" and take the water away, but then he has nothing to drink with the rest of the meal, and he sometimes cries/yells (don't care at home, but in public...) and most importantly, it doesn't keep him from doing it again.
We live in a very dry climate so I try to give him water in a sippy all the time so he'll be in the habit of staying hydrated. I can't just take it away for good, so what to do?
ETA: He's starting to do it with food, too -- chew, spit out, fling on floor despite our telling him to put it on his plate or on the table, which he's always been good at, up until now...
