At the risk of casting suspicion...there is little money to me made by the use of common sense. Circumcision on the other hand.....it's a long chain of money making....first there's the doctor who pockets the cash from the surgery, then there is the ped who sees the kid for meatal stenosis, who then refers the child to a ped urologist who does another surgery to open up his urethral opening, then there's the personal lubricant industry who manufacturers something to help restore some gliding action taken away with the foreskin, then there's the pharmaceutical industry that can prescribe Viagra when the man develops impotency (7 to 10 years earlier than the intact man). Wow, looks like a nice money stream to me.
I have said a similar thing about birth control. Kids are taught nothing about the actual human fertility cycle. It's quite possible for a woman to take control of her fertility by monitoring her body and being knowledgable about the biology of fertility...thus avoiding the need for "the pill" but there is no money in that. I think the majority of women have no idea that they can have the type of control that natural family planning can give them....without relying on the pharmaceutical industry. But, hey, their is no money in that path. (Please, let's not get into whether NFP is a good idea for various populations (young impulsive teens, etc...) I just want to use it as an example of why information doesn't get disseminated - there's no economic gain in doing so.)
