I need help with my one size pocket diapers

Hi!
My OS pockets always leak, so performed a test on some of the diapers.
I poured water directly onto the PUL part or onto the fleece of the pocket. The PUL seems to be quite waterproof. When I pour it onto the fleece, the outside of the cover gets wet beginning at the area of the seams. So the urine doesn't penetrate the cover, but goes around at the seams and soaks the outside of the cover (and eventually the clothes).

It happens no matter how dry or wet the liner is. When it is not very wet, the inner fleece of the pocket is already wet, so that urine can get to the outside at the seam region. When the insert is soaked, it soaks more and more the outside of the cover.

I am already thinking about cutting out the inner fleece and just using them as covers. I just got 2 gpants and use them with my cloth liners, and it works perfect. the liners are soaking wet, and they still don't leak (so the liners are absorbent enough, no buildup).

I would like to use my OS as well, though. How can I prevent the leaking from happening?
Thanks,
Katrin

I'm not sure what kind of fleece you are using. But I know that the pocket diapers that I use have dry layer fleece that readily aborbs, but the other side doesn't. So, you might have the fleece inside out. The super soft side readily absorbs moisture to let the moisture go through... but the other side prevents the wet insert from wetting the fleece by sort of blocking moisture. So, you have to becareful, when using just the fabric fleece, to use the correct side.

I didn't understand what you meant with using the right side of the fleece. It is sewed onto the cover to form a pocket for the liner, so I don't think I can use it the wrong way.

to gabesmom:
The brands I use are smartipants and nature's love one size diapers.

Today I used a liner from the smartipants with a gdiaper cover. I was outside the house for hours and didn't have a chance to change the diaper. I could squeeze the liquid from the liner, but it didn't leak at all. I would just use those gdiaper covers, but they don't fit more than one insert (so I cannot use them overnight), and I don't like the vinyl liner, it doesn't seem to be very breathable.

Which diaper (brand and type (AIO, fitted, OS,...) would you recommend as a night diaper for my heavy wetter?

Thanks again!

Have you tried stripping your diapers? There are a lot of different methods, but it's just a way to make sure there aren't any residues on the surface that are interfering with absorbtion. Tried any stripping methods?

nirtak, I just saw your second post.

At night we use either a TinyTush Elite pocket diaper (or sometimes a fuzzibunz) with 3 inserts, 2 microfiber and one hemp or visa versa...or a fitted with one doubler and a wool soaker. I use some snappiable fitteds I made, or a Tiny Tush organic fitted or a Sugar Peas fitted. Usually with a hemp or bamboo doubler. fwiw.

Yes, I stripped the diapers. I don't think, that is the problem. Especially since the liners are super absorbent, and I washed them together with the pocket diapers. To me it seems like a design error of pocket diapers: the urine wets the fleece and then goes around at the openings for the legs where the fleece gets in touch with the PUL cover and soaks the outside of the cover (and eventually the clothes).

I meant that the fleece fabric used in a pocket diaper (maybe not all.. but at least the one that I have does) has two sides. One material on one side as absorbent side and another side as blocking moisture side. The absorbent side is the soft side that touches baby's bottom and blocking moisture side is the side that touches the inserts. So, you could have sewned it inside out. You could have sewned the blocking moisture side to touch baby's bottom and absorbent side touching the insert. I wish I could should you picture to describe it better!

Oh, I got it. No, I bought the diapers, so they came this way. But it is the right way, 'cause the soft part touches my baby's skin.
