What do you feed your cat?

Right now, Linus is eating Wellness Core for cats(says kittens too) and nurto kitten wet food. Is that ok for a kitten? Do I have to feed wet food?

Our pup eats raw, but I am not sure I can go that route with the kitty too--so I am new to bagged food. I think I read some puppies shouldn't be fed high protien food, but I am unsure if that rule applies to kitttens.

Thanks for your help!

My cat eats medical gastro. He's had tummy issues and it's really helped him. I haven't heard of Wellness Core, sorry!

CORE is fine for kittens. Unlike dogs, cats are obligate carnivores and actually do better on grain free, high protein diets. Wet food, I always recommend for cats. They are seeing more and more older cats with kidney problems, and the theory is that its because more cats are being fed entirely dry diets. cats do not normally drink a lot of water, getting most of it from their prey. A cat on a dry diet alone may not actually take in enough water.

Can you get anything higher quality than Nutro for wet? Nutro is a high quality product, but it has been involved in the recalls and they outsource their canning. Since the company was bought out by the Pedigree corporation a few years back, the quality has been declining somewhat. Wellness cans would be higher quality and they still offer a wide variety, there are of course many other great brands, I just figure wherever you get the CORE is likely to have the Wellness cans too.

Cats, btw, can do just fine on a raw diet. I wasn't sure if you meant you weren't sure if cats did well on raw, or if you didn't feel up to doing it. I wanted you to know that if you like raw, there's no reason you can't make it for your cat. If you're feeding prepackaged raw, there are brands that make diets that are good for both cats and dogs, and also cat specific raw diets.

My mom feeds Organix. When I'm cat sitting, I feed her raw. I think the cat prefers it when I cat sit.

Thanks for all of your help! Good to know about Nutro, I think I will stick to wellness canned. I only bought it due to a sale, normally it is almost the same price as Wellness.

I just don't feel up to doing it, lol. The kitten was an unexpected surprise and when I found him, he was starving. I had to feed him bagged stuff to simply get him to live, so now he is used to it. It is just so easy to dump food in a bowl and walk away. No portioning out food, handling raw meat, cleaning up feeding areas, etc.

I may change my tune--I do love raw feeding my dog.

our cats get Merrick seafood wet food mixed with Orijen adult kibble

I feed Wellness Core dry and also Core wet. I had fed the reg. Wellness wet food to my older cat (when I only had her) and it didn't agree with her. So for a bit she didn't get any wet food. Now a feed store, near me, has the Core cans and she does well with them.

BTW, I have a 2yr old cat and a 6m old kitten and they both eat it.

innova wet and dry, though i sometimes get petguard organic wet. i'd feed raw but the only things my cat will eat are mayonaise, butter, tuna water, and meatballs in tomato sauce. i've tried chicken and hamburger and she won't even give it a second sniff.
