NO-SHAMPOO MAMAS (February) - Page 2

mamachel, that amazes me. when i worked in a salon you weren't doing your job unless your client bought a bottle of shampoo and a cartload of products when they came in for services.: you were lucky to have an honest and informed stylist.

Rachelle! Its so nice to see you here.....thanks for coming. We needed an expert...someone to share their experience with us and give some encouragement. Particularly about getting over that hump period. So, are you familiar with Mothering? Are you able to get the magazine in England? One particular question I have is.......will doing the baking soda/apple cider vinegar rinse interfere with the natural balance of oils I'm trying to achieve??

MamaChel...so nice to have your expertise here as well; we can sure use it! Same question for you......

I'd write more....but the in-laws are coming and I've gotta light a fire under my heiny to get some things done

Dang! I didn't know you'd started a new thread. LOL I am still having major scalp issues. Much flakiness, and the bad part is I have a hard time not picking at it. Oh, and in the last week I have developed acne all around my hairline??!!! I am trying to keep the bs wash to once a week, but should I up it to two a week? I am just scared of not being able to get that balance, bs is really drying, right?
mamamoo, I think I need to BS more than once a week, too- mine is not doing well with just water.

Hope the itching goes away. Mine went away right when I stopped shampoo- think the shampoo was causing it.

I'm at a week and a half.
Suddenly the flakes have disappeared. Just like that. But my face is beaking out. Don't know if it's from my hair grease or the fact af is visiting. I did a bs wash and rosemary rinse this morning. Looks and feels good. So far I haven't had two bad hair days in a row yet. I slept with my hair in a ponytail last night and when I took the scrunchy out, my hair stayed in ponytail position. That's how I knew I needed the bs! I can definitely feel the weight difference in my hair, but it's not a bad thing. It's not a weighed down feeling.
Maybe our faces need a new way to be washed/conditioned/moisturized. Any sug all you old timers?

I was thinking of doing the BS/ ACV every other day... because of the flaking/ itching.... do you think that is too much?

I don't know Korin! That's what I am wanting to find out from Rachelle and MamaChel. Ja mama.....that's fantastic. That means your scalp is balancing itself out. I'm thinking that your breakouts are from the hormonal shift from your period. A rosemary rinse for your face might help too. You can make a quick toner with rosemary EOO and witch hazel....OR....put some dried rosemary in some witch hazel and let it sit in the sun for a bit.

I'm having my hair cut tonight, ala Meredith from the Bachelorette. I'm in love with her hair (maybe it'll make me look like her???? LOL) SOoooo, perhaps I'll take a pic and show y'all.

Here's just my opinion. The bs/acv every other day might not get your hair to it's natural balance, but it has to be better than shampoo every day or every couple of days. So it's probably too often for me for the long run, but it's a great place to start. I did the bs wash acv rinse every other day for the first week, now I'm trying to wait a couple days in between. And I'm done with the acv (don't like the smell) and my rosemary eo water rinse is working great.

Ok, you ladies convinced me to try NO-POO!

I last poo'ed (I feel so dirty writing that :LOL ) on Wednesday, today I did the BS and ACV.

Now my head itches, but I'm guessing that's normal at first, right?

Also, am I doing this the right way? I made up a paste of BS and water, which I massaged into my scalp. Then, I poured a big glass of water with a little glug of ACV in it over my head. I then rinsed completely with warm water.

Is that how to do it, or should I not rinse after I put the ACV on?

TIA
Kate

I'm going to start TOMORROW!!!

Okay, from February 7 to March 7 I will use NO commercial shampoo (I may use bs/acv).

I am INSPIRED!

I have pg hair anyway, so it can't be any worse, right?

Wish me luck! I told dh and he said "WHAT? Now you're really granola honey!"

Day 4 for me...first with BS and ACV. My hair was sort of greasy on Day 3 and I kept it pulled back in a ponytail.

I made a paste with 4 tbsp BS and boiling water and applied that to my dry hair at the roots. I massaged it in and then wrapped a towel around my head. My head had not been itchy before but the BS did make it itchy.

After about 20 minutes I did a good rinse in the shower. My hair was a big clump and I thought I'd never get a comb through it, but then I poured the ACV rinse over it and all the tangles disappeared. I made the ACV rinse with about 2 cups of water and a small glug of ACV.

At the end of my shower I rinsed my hair with lukewarm water then gave it a last blast with cold water.

My hair looks just fine and feels very clean. Doesn't smell like ACV at all.

Hey all!!

My last 'poo was on Jan 22nd so I am 15 days 'poo free!!

I've decided that I need to do the BS ACV thing every 4 days. By day 4 it is grea-sy! I may try the cornstarch thing next time around and see if I can go a little longer though.

I usually shower at night so the next morning when I wake up my hair is usually pretty flat. Now, the day after it's cleaned w/ the BS & ACV it has so much body. It just kind of styles itself.

This is pretty cool!

no washing EVER???

Am I to believe that one, in theory, can go without ever washing their head/hair? A couple of posters said they have been poo free for over 3 years.....is that no baking soda, too? What a concept!! Would your hair eventually just find a happy balance with the oil?

I had to use bs today because my DH and I went out for drinks last night and my hair REEKED like cigarette smoke.

abby....that's exactly what I'm hoping Rachelle will answer. Rachelle, mama, where are you???? Can an experienced no-poo gals answer this one?? It seems to be a recurring question. Hasn't anyone come across any articles in Mother Earth News or any other natural living magazine?? I totally think Mothering should definitely write an article on it. I know one of our no-poo gals suggested this awhile ago and got shot down.

NOW IS THE TIME!

LOL

I have been 'poo free since around the middle of jan, so i am into my third week, approaching four i guess.

i found that bs dries out my ends, so i've just been putting it on my roots and hair closest to my scalp, and none on my ends. then i rince with diluted avc. so far so good. i've done this 3 times, so i guess once a week.

i'll have to try the corn starch. i've used baby powder for this trick for years.

i still have to buy a brush too. i NEVER brush my hair, probably bc i didn't want to increase scalp oiliness but i'll try it.

i'm having a great time w/ this thread.

oh- dd is doing great with no poo too.
she has VERY dry skin. what are mama's favorite natural lotions?

lotion

i have very dry and sensitive skin......i just bought a frag free and oil free lotion made by magikal botanicals (that's really how its spelled). so far, so good.

My name is Havilah and I am a shampoo addict. Sometimes once a day isn't enough and I need a pre-bed fix...

I'm about as crunchy as a marshmallow. I'm also a conservative christian and a republican: , but love to lurk around here for cosleeping, breastfeeding, and diapering. Maybe I'm a soft and smooshy attachment parenty conservative :

Anyhoo, I mentioned this thread to Dh (who is equally mushy), and he said, "sounds cool, why don't you try it?"

So, it's top secret, but I have decided to join you! I'll bet I'm the only one at my Southern Baptist church who isn't using shampoo

:LOL :LOL ! I wonder if this will be a slippery slope into crunchiness...

Is anyone using plain vinegar? I used diluted ACV in the shower today after rinsing my roots with baking soda & hot water and I actually threw up! I hadn't eaten in over 12 hours though, so at least it was just the dry heaves, but still. I can't do this on a regular basis.

I'm having morning sickness type symptoms, but I think it's just the stomach flu going around but not actually getting ahold of me. I hope anyway.

Hi Havilah! I'm a crunchy Christian as well.

I wanted to invite you to post with us on the Politically Conservative thread if you are interested! We can be found in the Finding Your Tribe forum.

Hi Havilah!

I'm a crunchy Christian too I am *not* a spanking Christian though. It seems if I say Christian, people think I'm an ezzo/pearl mama. NO WAY! I'm a grace based mama!! No spanking in this house!

Anyway, I'm on day 1 of this stuff. I'm a DEFINITELY daily poo/conditioner girl. And today I did the bs/acv instead and my hair is SOFTER!!!

I am stoked! I told my stepmom and she said "it's only been one day, what's the big deal". AHHH, for me, ONE DAY is a lifetime!! I poo/condition my hair or I don't leave the house!!!!
