First intact boy...gimme the basics :D

We have decided not to circ our youngest little guy and so I am wondering if y'all would give me some basic care info. I have to say...I am so glad dh and I made this decision.

Yay! : Good for you! There really isn't a lot of care. In the first few years of the child's life the foreskin is adhered to the glans (head of the penis) like a fingernail to a finger. All you do it just wash or wipe the outside and leave it be. Never, ever forcibly retract the foreskin, and don't let a doctor do it either. It will happen on it's own. I honestly don't know when my son's foreskin started to retract. I would wager around 5 years of age. He is 8 now and the advice for a child of that age is to just gently pull back the foreskin and wash underneath. Easy peasy. I don't think there is really any major care beyond that. Good for you for choosing to leave your child whole!

My boy is three and has ALL his parts

We don't do anything differently than I'd do to a circed boy. Just don't pull on the foreskin!! It will retract on its own one day (I've seen ours partly retract...but just a bit.).

Congrats on your great choice.

This is good to know! Thank you

If there is poopy on it, wipe it the same way you would wipe his finger if there was poopy on that. Don't let the pediatrician mess with it.

As previously stated, there is no special care! Just wipe off. I found it especially helpful to have my diaper changing area on the bathroom counter, right next to the sink. If he had an especially messy poopy diaper, I'd just set his bottom in the sink and wash off.
Also, a coating of olive oil or calendula cream on the newborn bottom really helps to keep the first meconium poop from sticking so badly.

I had two girls, then a boy. I had heard how much easier boys were to diaper since they didn't have the creases that girls did. Well, I dasagree! Boy parts are squishy and move around on you.

Love and snuggle that new little one when he arrives. I am so thrilled to hear he will be intact. Enjoy your new baby!!

Thanks mamas!!! Sounds pretty easy

Yep, that's pretty much it. Easy does it when it comes to the care. Probably the most difficult thing will be to educate others because some people still think that the foreskin needs to be retracted and cleaned under.

Make sure that his doctor and anyone who will change his diaper knows that you just wipe like a finger and don't retract.

I had a girl and then a boy. I agree boy parts also get all wrinkly.

Wipe from base to tip like a finger. Never push the skin back toward the body and never allow anyone else to do so. The scrotum is by far the hardest to get clean, all those tiny little wrinkles and crevasses and the testicles rolling around in there

Read the following Stickies in the resources: A Warning to parents of intact sons, The definition of retraction & why it is BAD & if you are like me and like to know what might happen so you are prepared for it Possible Separation Issues

Congrats on leaving your ds intact you wont regret it.

Now you're talking about the scrotum, all boys have that circ'd or intact. As far as the penis goes though, an intact one is easy peesy.

This. Instead of prying apart all the creases and folds to get out that runny BF poop, I'm picking things up and sliding them around. The hiding places may be different, but there are just as many of them with boys as there are with girls, LOL.

I agree that the intact penis requires the least maintenance out of all the possible parts, though. I've spent way, way more time cleaning girly bits, scrotums, and circ'ed penises of the little boys I've taken care of than I've ever spent on my son's penis. It's very low-maintenance.

The only thing I recommend is lots of diaper-free, air-drying time each day. My son has never had anything beyond some slight redness on the end of his penis thanks to this, and when he gets that, a little airing out clears it right up.

Congratulations, and yay for another intact little boy in the world! :

A question from a mom gestating a boy... does the poop ever get inside the foreskin, especially if the foreskin is extra long? If it does, how do you get the poop out? I'm totally clueless here.

Usually anything that get in there gets washed out the next time they pee. You can also give him a quick swish in the sink. It usually doesn't get in there though. They sphincter is pretty tight except when they are in the process of urinating. It opens up to let the urine out then closes back up again.

: I never saw it inside the foreskin but on occasion it was there at the tip and pulling toward me always got it and if any was left it was washed away when he urinated the next time.

Congrats momma! What a lucky boy!

As others have said. Wipe what you see and never let anyone try to retract.
