clothing compatible with cloth diapers

I just got my stash of infant prefolds and covers and I'm so excited to play with them! However, I'm looking at the microscopic onesies and skinny little pants people have given me and thinking that there's no way a baby's big, fluffy, cloth-diapered butt is going to fit in those clothes.

Does anyone have recommendations for brands of baby pants that have lots of room in the bum area? Or any recommendations in general for clothing compatible with cloth diapers? Thanks!

We used the bulky prefolds when our daughter was first born because the nicer 'one size' diapers didn't fit her yet. I have noticed that gerber brands are smaller, and the more expensive brands like Carters fit the large rump better. Of course, after the first couple of weeks you will be in a bigger size clothing (most likely), so it might be a good idea to just stay away from the 'newborn' size and go with the 0-3 month for most things.

We go for tshirts instead of onesies, and just size up on the pants. I would go for the 0-3 months, at least for the pants.

I try to avoid pants - especially in the early months. They're just a pain & they seem so uncomfy for ds. I find overalls or one piece jumpers work best & they seem to be roomier through the bum/hips than pants.

t-shirts are easier size wise but they are always hiking up & I don't like that so I usually just use a size up with onesies - but you might be surprised how well they stretch over those bulky bums.

This winter I plan on using baby legs around the house.

hanna andersson wiggle pants! i got a bunch for 5$ each last year when there was a sale. dd is 5 mos and 19 lbs and can still wear the size 50 (closest they have to nb), and has worn those just about since birth. they are rather short but still work. otherwise gymbo seems to work well- for a girl the leggings are great. actually any type of legging works for a girl. for tops we either do t shirts or size up with the onesies. i just got a bunch of the hanes t shirts from a bulk site and they fit kind of snug on dd and dont ride up. of course shes rather round so that's probably why, lol.

I either used t shirts and baby legs, or 0-3 month clothing

If you want to use onesies just go up one size. Baby legs are great too instead of pants. I also love zutano and hanna andersson over a cloth dipe.

I have found that Baby Gap clothes are often cut with big bums. Older items from Old Navy are also good bets. I also make lots of pants for my son. I cut them by the booty size he needs and cut them shorter so they don't look like daddy's pants rolled up on him. T-shirts make great baby pants - so soft and comfy!

Clothes for Cloth

For new babies, gowns are so easy for diaper changes, and they've got to be more comfortable than pants!

For older baby girls, cloth diapers are great under dresses. They make the dress puff out so much better than a disposable diaper.

I totally agree that a t-shirt and a cute cloth diaper make a great outfit.

People generally have a lot of luck with things like overalls and one piece outfits. I agree with ScienceFair too, that more expensive brands like Carters/OshKosh and Gymboree seem roomier. Most of our one piece outfits are Carters/OshKosh or Gymboree.

I haven't had much trouble with clothing fitting over a cloth diaper but I also have used cloth in the newborn stage. I also have never really put anything smaller than 0-3 months on my babies b/c my smallest has been just under 9.5 lbs. My last child was almost 11 lbs and went straight to 3 month size. I do find that it helps to go up a size in things like onesies. My youngest can fit 9 month size, but I put a 12 month size onesie on him. It was the same when he was younger - usually a size ahead. I haven't had trouble with pants, but I only do elastic waist pants and not anything that zips or buttons. Most of his clothes are from Carter's and if you get them on sale with a coupon, they really aren't much more expensive than other brands.

Thanks everyone! I'm off to get some babylegs!

Any stretchy pants work, really.

Oh - and get some onsie extenders! They rock

I found the Carter's brand to be narrow (and therefore fit the top half) but long, accommodating the bum. Stretchy pants a size up, sleepers, and babylegs rounded out our wardrobe.

Gerber sucks for sizing, but carters has been great for us. Of course DS is skinny, but everything still fits and he is 2 months still in 0 to 3 months clothees.

I agree with the pp who said gowns. Those are my favorites for the first month or so.
