Interesting weaning gift

My dd5 chose to get her ears pierced as a weaning gift. It was scary (for me) but she got them done a couple days ago and did great!! She held completely still for the piercer (got them done at a reputable body piercing/tattoo place) and didn't flinch at all. She is so in love with them but I never expected to be piercing my dd's ears at age 5. I think its neat that she will always have them as a reminder of nursing just not the kind of gift I was expecting to give when I asked her!

Yay for you nursing you babe for 5 years, and that IS a cool gift! My son self weaned just after his 5th birthday this summer and we're still searching for a way to mark the occasion. (I just wrote about it here http://zachaboard.blogspot.com/2009/...rs-1-week.html )
DH thinks we should make boobie cupcakes
Hmmmm, no. Still pondering something special... thanks for sharing!

That, IMO, is a great weaning gift. Earrings, to me, seem very much a "big girl" (or boy) step and to have one symbolize the ending of a baby/toddler/young child relationship seems really meaningful.

Congrats!

When I was little and turned 5 years old, the only thing in the world I wanted was to get my ears pierced!! My mother took me to the jeweler to get it done, and I didn't flinch and wasn't scared at all! My godmother gave me these little pearl posts, which I still have to this day---I wil be 42 next month!!

That's awesome! Congratulations on making it to five years. I love the pierced ears idea, too. I tried to do that as a weaning gift for my 4 year old, but DH wasn't havin' it, so I bought her a watch instead, .
