Talk to me about EC and a diaper pail & washing routine

So, talk to me about your diaper pail. Do you use one? what do you do about occasional pee dipes?

I have been doing EC for almost 2 months now and its going well, but I still find I use a few diapers and we can count on some misses. I use a shared laundry so it not like I can easily pop in a few dipes on a small load, and I live in southern cali where we are in a multi-year drought, and I really don't like to wash a few dipes in a full load. We use dipes at night (dry about half the time though) and when we go out. Right now we aren't going out much but when school starts again (for DS, and then for me). We use pad, prefolds-on-our-lap and trainers at home and around the neighborhood.

For example: from Friday-Wednesday we had about 6 pee diapers. Certainly not a full load, but I didn't want to let them sit around any longer either, so I washed them. I am considering just throwing the pee dipes in with our regular laundry, since I do that every 2 days or so anyway. I already just throw in wet puddle pads, trainers, etc, b/c they only have one pee on them. Same with the dipes. I think we have about 1-4 misses in 24 hours (usually not 4 but sometimes), so its not much. But, I don't want to have a totally pee-smelling closet (where the laundry basket is).

And, do you think my probs with build-up on the dipes will get better or worse? (these are hand-me-own Fuzzi Bunz w/ microfiber soakers- so far buildup probs seem much worse than the mostly-cotton ME and prefolds I used w/ ds but unfortunately gave away and didn't get back... when she's big enough I still have about 8 of the ME large Sandy's, which might really be enough at the rate we use them.)

Pee dipes go in regular laundry if I'm in a rush, or get rinsed out with a vinegar/detergent combo in the sink and hung to dry if I've got time.

When we were having lots of poopy diapers, I'd do a load of diapers. Now that there's one or two a month (or a week, I HATE COLDS!!!!) I scrape/rinse the chunks off and wash those diapers in the regular laundry too.

I wash once a week.

For build up, you might have to strip your diapers. The less water usage way of doing that is to boil them on the stove.

okay, thanks- this makes me feel like my plans aren't gross. I might use those imse-vimse flushable liners for poop misses once DD is eating solids. BM poo isn't too bad, plus, so far we're catching it almost all the time.

as for build-up... I did boil them and it helped, but its SO hot right now I can't contemplate it! I might just slim down to like 10 dipes, boil those, and then its also not as overwhelming a task.
