Quick history of my son:
Born at home in Mexico. Natural birth. No complications. Brought back to states(Massachusetts)at two weeks old. I delayed vax. Went back to Mexico and at 6 months he had his first vax. This was a 6 in 1 shot at a Mexican pediatricians office. I have the box(he gave it to me so I could be sure to let my U.S. ped know what my son has had).
Fast forward to now he's back in the states, continuing to have his vax, never really on schedule because I don't really believe in their schedule. But anyway, at 18 mos. he has a febrile seizure(2-5 min.). Not sure if this is related to vax or not, I didn't know at the time that it could be an MMR reaction. Of course, doctor never made any connection, said it's "fairly common" to have febrile seizures. OK. So at 2 years old he's lining his cars in rows, having hour long-tantrums, basically, he's undiagnosed Asperger's now at 5.
So I've avoided any vax's for him since about...24 mos. Never put any of this together until now. BUT...sigh...I have to figure out where to go from here because I have to maintain vax records since we're homeschooling Kindergarten. Do I fill out an exemption form? If so, how do I explain that I'm selectively vax'ing my 2 yr old? Or even my 5 yr old for that matter. I'll vax him as I see fit, and I don't want to be held down to an exemption at this point because there's so many different schools of thought on this...
So, for my on the spectrum son, should I just keep his incomplete vax form on file and tell my ped I'm taking a wait and see approach to vax'ing? My DS has never been tested for Asperger's and I've never mentioned it to my ped. Should I bring this up now? If there's an autism/vaccine connection, I certainly do not want to toxify the heck out of my already struggling son.
I already don't agree with how many and how young kids get vax's. I mean, a hep A vax when they've barely left the womb? You don't know anything about that baby and how his body might react!!! Aughhhh! It makes me crazy!
But...I have to do something for the legality of the situation. So, how about I keep a vax record on file(to satisfy state homeschooling laws) and discuss with my ped that I'm not comfortable vax'ing according to schedule? Can I do that? Any thoughts? Suggestions?
