DS hasn't nursed in 6 days. He is 3 years and 1 month. I don't think it was because he wanted to stop but he started preschool this week and his older sister started school as well. We now have early and busy mornings. We had only been nursing once a day in the morning. He would crawl into bed with me and cuddle and nurse; it was our special time together. This week, I have been up and dressed before him and so no nursing. I guess I'm feeling really sad. He is my last child; I'll never do this again.

I can empathize too. My dd will be 4 the beg of january and I think she's about done. If she nurses it is at right before bed and for literally 10 sec. It's almost as if she is just checking to see if she can. She says 'done, I got all the milk' and rolls over. There is a part of me that is happy...I've been nursing for almost 11 yrs straight but i also know she's my last. Bittersweet indeed.
If I ask her if she's done nursing she'll say 'no' and claim not until her birthday. I think she doesn't like the idea of not nursing. She likes to keep her options open!
