Open sores on bottom?

My dd keeps getting these open sores on her butt. At first I thought it was just a diaper rash but it's not the "typical" rash. It's spots, slighly raised, that end up being open sores. I took her to the doctor but by that point I had basically had her diaperless for days and they had improved drastically when she got there. Over the phone (prior to the appointment) they thought it sounded like yeast but when the doctor saw them, she said she wasn't sure and said we should try putting an ointment on (like neosporin but not as strong). Anyone know what it could be and if the diapers are causing it? We use mainly pockets but also prefolds. thanks!

It sounds a lot like what my daughter had which was Impetigo. The sores can actually be very serious if they get infected. But yes, when we gave her more air time, it helped along with using coconut oil. We also stripped and stripped the diapers almost each time until it was gone. (and of course we needed to strip more because of using the coconut oil and still using the diapers). Honestly - the coconut oil helped a LOT - one of my friends daughters had also had Impetigo (completely unrelated since she's in another state and had no contact) and they used coconut oil and air time.

I'm sorry she has the rash/sores and I hope they get better soon! I don't know what could cause that - has she been eating anything different lately that could cause the start of a rash which would progress to the sores?

What kind of diapers is she wearing? Do the spots get better when you switch to a differnt diaper? I know you said pockets, but what brand of pockets? What type of detergent are you using?

I ask what brand of pocket diapers b/c my child get an open sore type of rash whenever he would wear a bum genius diaper. I am not sure exactly what it is, but I think he might be sensitive to the liner in the diaper. I use Charlie's soap to wash them and I've heard that can cause a rash/sores in some kids, but I use that on all the other diapers (mostly fuzzi bunz) I have and they don't cause the same problem.

We use prefolds, fuzzi bunz, and bum genius. We use all free and clear. I havent' noticed any difference with the different diapers but we wear all of them in one day so it would be hard to tell.

When my child wears a BG diaper, he gets a rash/spres. When I take those two diapers out of rotation and he doesn't wear them, his butt gets better so I assume it is something with the diaper.

I did get a PM today that suggested I try a prefold in the diaper pocket instead of the BG insert. She said her child was irritated by the BG insert but was fine with the prefold in the pocket. She also said her child could wear other brands of pocket diapers, but it was something with the insert of the BG that caused an issue. I just got this PM today so I haven't tried it, but it might be worth a try.

Could be a diaper thing, but for my son it was a food allergy. Soy gives him open, bleeding sores on his bum.

Have you changed/added/increased any foods lately?

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Mine got that if I kept her eaither in poly fabrics (pockets) or with covers that didn't breath enough. What worked was 100% cotton diapers with eaither MEAF covers or nicky 100% cotton wraps changed very often as wetness didn't help. I also allowed her to go coverless as much as possible.
