American Expecting in Utrecht

Hello Everybody,

I'm currently living in Utrecht and I'm hoping to find some of you tribal members in the nearby areas. This pregnancy was a big surprise, but I'm excited about what an adventure this is going to be. I'm 24 and been living here and traveling around for the past year. I'd love to meet some other local mama's for friendship and support as I don't have any friends here with children!

I would also really appreciate some information about having babies in Holland. I have been wondering about the rules, and tips about vax, UC, and a million other little things but have had some trouble finding the information myself as my Dutch is poor. Any mama's who would be happy to let me pick their brains?

Give me a shout out and tell me about your family and where you're from. I'd love to get to know you all this fall.

Hi,

I'm in Amsterdam, not Utrecht, but I thought you might like to know about the English-language LLL meetings in Amsterdam. They take place every month, usually on Thursday mornings. The fall schedule just came out. If you're interested, I will be glad to pass it on.

Sure! It's been a while since I've been to Amsterdam but maybe I'll be around one of the dates. I know that the LLL meets informally here in Utrecht every Thursday at a cafe downtown, so I figured I'd show up and eventually meet some people here in the area too.

My son is now almost seven (!) so it's been awhile since I was involved in pregnancy and birth in NL.

However, Access has pre-natal classes and also publishes a book about pregnancy in NL

http://www.access-nl.org/

Most of their workshops and classes are in Amsterdam or the Hague, but from Utrecht it isn't that hard to get to either city, and might be a great way to meet pregnant woman for friendship and support.

A good friend of mine has recently started a website: www.homeinleiden.nl
Although, as the name implies, it's geared toward Leiden, it has some good general information on pregnancy, birth, and child-rearing in NL from a foreign perspective.

I'm not a huge fan of www.Expatica.nl as I feel that the forums devolve into negativity way too quickly. That being said, you could scan postings and/or post yourself asking for Utrecht-specific information.

Hope this helps and good luck with the pregnancy!
