what size diaper did your child wear when?

I'm expecting a new baby this winter, and with four years between my kids it's just long enough that I've forgotten useful things like how long she was in each size.

My entire stash from the first time around has been given/loaned to friends, and although some of it will probably come back to me, some of it is still in use on other children. Plus I like to sew, so I'm working on a mostly new stash for this babe. But I'm trying to figure out how many dipes I need of each size. I feel like by the time my new baby is in mediums, I will probably have gotten a lot of diapers back from friends, but I also sort of remember DD being in mediums pretty early, and staying in them forever. (She potty-learned from mediums...I do remember that.) And I sort of feel like she wasn't in extra-smalls for more than a few weeks. Does that make sense, or are those early months just blurring together for me? My DD was always very average in size (right at 50th% her whole life), so I'm just going to pretend for the sake of planning that this new child will be too.

Oh, and FWIW I'm not interested in making one-size diapers because they would be a PITA to sew, and I never really liked using them for the smaller sizes.

Anyway, basically my question is: how big was your kid (average, on the small side, on the big side), and at what ages (or between what months) did s/he wear each size cloth diaper?

Thanks!!

pretty hard to answer cause diffrent types fit toally diffrent. I could get away with putting a size one kissaluv on my DD at anytime from baby to potty training though they size 2 eventually worked better other diapers were out grown faster my DD out grew her one size pockets by 3 years but my medium clothbaby diapers worked perfectly from when I bought them at 4 months till 4 years. In prefolds I went to premium prefolds right from the start at 4 months but I could trifold an infant or fold down a toddler for years if needed. Same with covers some lasted jsut a few months before they got too small others seemed to cross over sizes and last a lot longer like I could fit a small MEAF cover on my DD for almost 3 years and my DD fit the medium and large bummi SWW for ever and a day while the dappi for example had a shorter duration because of the rise. I found size snap diapers seemed to fit longer because I could adjust waist and thigh seperetly..

DD started in infant sized prefolds and newborn size Proraps covers. The covers were too big at birth (7lb 11oz) and the prefolds were bulky, but they fit fine by 2wks. She was in small Thirsties covers by 6wks. Around 4-5 months (16-18lbs) she moved up to medium Thirsties covers and premium sized prefolds. She's still in those same covers at nearly 16 months, and will probably potty learn out of them, she has lots of room.

We started using some FuzziBunz pockets recently, and she BARELY fits a medium now, and will need large soon. She's 24 lbs.

Thanks for the replies!

Keep 'em coming...I'm specifically interested in the sizing on wraps and pockets.

Oh I can say like for Fuzzi bunz pockets we started with smalls around 3.5 months jsut for nighttime around 7-8 months mediums started to work better though the smalls still fit "ok".. and then she moved to the petite talls maybe around age 2 (or whatever they were called) the larges were always way too big on mine. she was tall but thin build...

the bummi SWW we also started with smalls around 2-3 months moved to mediums maybe around 8-9 months or so moved to larges conistantly around 2.5 years.

My son is 12 weeks and stil fits nb proraps and nb bummis. He can wear a small prorap at night when I use a fitted diapers and usually put extra fabric in it as a doubler. He is just really thin, even though he is 11 lbs.

My ds2 is big (close to 90%ile for weight and 75%ile for height)
He was out of nb's in weeks, and wearing mediums by 6 weeks, if that. He was 13lbs 2 oz at 6 weeks.

The only small he wears is FB new style (but they are exactly the same size as the med old style FB I have). He's firmly in med Swaddlebees (in the middle snap settings).

My baby was 6 lbs at birth but had almost doubled her birth weight at her six week checkup! She was in newborn sizes for 3-6 weeks depending on the brand, then in smalls until 6-8 months, in mediums until around age 2, then in larges until she potty trained at 3. Mostly, depending on brand, if my memory is accurate. Except for being very tiny the first few weeks, she has always been average in weight and medium-tall in height. She had a bit of the skinny waist, chunky thigh syndrome, but nothing an average side-snapping cover couldn't accommodate.

When we started cloth diapering DS was 7 months and he wore medium Fuzzi Bunz. He is now 27 months and 30 pounds and is wearing the same size medium. He still has a lot of room in them and should be able to wear them until he PL. We also bought him some Swaddlebees this past spring in a large since we didn't know how they would fit on him, and those work well too. I would think the medium would be too small on him at this point for that brand.

I'm a big fan of Swaddlebees. We were in their size small until about 5 months (she was around 19 lbs then) and we had a couple of months where we used mostly Kissaluvs/Bummi's med/large. We then skipped the Swaddlebees mediums entirely. She's on the tightest size of Swaddlebees large still at 21 lbs and 15 months. We started using them when she was 7 months old and around 20 lbs. I probably should have bought mediums but this is working for us.

I started DD (at about 3 weeks) in small prefolds with mostly small (and some NB) pro-raps type covers. She started to outgrow the small covers at about 5 months, at which point I made a big bunch of medium-sized pocket diapers... which she is still wearing at 21 months, and often on the smallest snap-setting. I also continued to use prefolds in a diaper belt around the house until 14 months old or so. We've been doing EC, and although she is by no means an "early grad" she's on her way, and I expect that we won't need any larger diapers.

I had ordered one Kissaluvs 0 and never used it when she was small, because I liked using just one system and seemed too expensive/precious/whatever. I tried it on her at 12 months (or maybe a bit later?) and it fit, though a bit on the small side. They are very stretchy.
