We have been referred to the fertility clinic in Calgary and was wondering if anyone else had any experience with them.

TIA

Not me, but my cousin is going there.

Hope someone else replies to you, you may find some people on the infertility board too?

Hey there. I just finished an IVF cycle with them. IMO they are very good at what they do and I was impressed with the level of care I got there. My only complaints would be that the way they run their waiting list is weird and it can mean a longer wait than, say, Genesis in Vancouver. Communication before I was offered treatment wasn't great, which was highly annoying. Once I started cycling with them, though, they were fantastic, which is what counts in retrospect.

You could check out www.ivf.ca for reviews of the clinic. THere is even a folder within "Clinic Chat" where you can meet other patients of RFP.

HTH . Feel free to pm me if you have any specific questions . . .I don't tend to visit this area of MDC very often.

We too were at the fertility clinic for a while!  I was 24 when we started trying and after convincing my doc to get us in there stat when I was 26 and we hadn't gotten pregnant in 2 years, it took another 6 months to get in.  These people mean business!  When we were done our first appointment, we knew exactly what we'd be doing to try and get pregnant, and what would happen when.  Tests were scheduled, medication was taken, blood was examined very regularly.  The nurses were awesome and our doc was great, very no-nonsense and almost blunt, but she was really wonderful to talk to.

We didn't end up getting pregnant on Clomid and weren't ready for IUI or IVF so we decided to take a break for a year to get in better shape physically and financially and then this year a week before we were scheduled to go back we found out we were pregnant!

I've had quite a few friends come out of there with positive pregnancy tests, just be prepared that they do move quickly and want to get you pregnant at the earliest possible.  If you're medically squeemish (as I am...hate drugs) be ready for a shocker.

Good luck!

My Hubby and I have finished all of the treatments and are pregnant with our first ultrasound coming up. Calgary was amazing for information and for their efforts. The only thing that might be frustrating to some is always leaving a message and waiting for a call back. But I promise they always call back within 24 hours based on urgency.

They have a high success rate because they really take care of you once your in the program. Ask questions and do some general research.

IUI might not be the best solution (it wasnt for us) and later research showed me that we should have started with IVF for our case only. Although we could have saved money in the long run I am glad we tried almost everything just for experience.

Don't be afraid to take time off either if it gets too emotional. We have been trying for 7 years and 5 with the clinic but the occasional break did wonders for me ( and my husband) during the whole process.

The website for the clinic has almost every answer you will need from procedures to cost to funding and prenatal links.

Good luck

THanks for posting about taking time off.  We have been trying for a year (IUI), and apart from required breaks this month is the first time that I have just taken a month off - and I feel that it is good for sanity - but appreciate hearing that others do the same.  Congrats.

Hi there, i realize this is an old question, but i want anyone searching for answers to this question to know the truth.

I have just been through IVF, and previously 3 cycles of IUI, with the Calgary Regional Fertility Clinic.

I have to say, I have never recieved such poor service and treatment from a doctor - a doctor that I am paying thousands of dollars at that. I expected a higher level of service and confidence in the fertility clinic than i would going to a walk in medi clinic.

We have now invested about $15,000+ in the clinic and the hope of getting pregnant. Last week i got an ultrasound done, at a radiology clinic on the same floor as the fertility clinic. They realized the baby was a small size, and were quite concerned. They forwarded my results to my fertility doctor, Dr. Wong, and told me to call him that day to set up an appointment and that he will know what to do from there.

I followed the directions and called. But, the BIG PROBLEM with the fertility clinic is that when you call there, all you EVER get is an answering machine, then they call you back - what seems like whenever they feel like it.

In this case, a nurse called me back 4 days later with a rescheduled time for another ultrasound. No the doctor did not want to meet with me to go over the results, so the nurse went over the folder over the phone with me.

Yesterday I had the second scan which revealed the baby had stopped growing and there was no heartbeat.

WHY WAS I NOT BROUGHT INTO THE FERTILITY CLINIC FOR TESTS?

WHY WERE MY HCG LEVELS NOT BEING MONITORED? MY WHOLE 8 WEEKS OF PREGNANCY I HAD NO BLOOD TESTS DONE.

ONCE THEY DID THE EMBRYO TRANSFER MARCH 28, I WAS FORGOTTEN ABOUT. THEY GOT THEIR MONEY AND MOVED ON TO THE NEXT.

Yesterday my family doctor tried to call the clinic for an hour straight, with no response. The Sonographer who took the ultrasound also tried to contact Dr Wong to ask whether i should be sent home or not. But could not get hold of him.

My family doctor had no choice but to send me straight to Emergency yesterday because he was worried about complications with the Fetal Demise, he called it. I went and sat 4 hours in Emerg. In th end they are transferring me to Pregnancy Loss centre and forwarding all the this info the Dr Wong.

After all this happened yesterday, I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THE FERTILITY CLINIC.

HOW'S THAT FOR SERVICE??
