Hi there!
I'm a consultant in the U.S. and I love the books. I like that the company offers the opportunity to also sell to daycare centers, schools/libraries, etc. But any direct sales business has to still operate through home parties - that's just the bread and butter of the business. I'm finding it hard to juggle evenings out with my family's busy schedule, so I'm experimenting with some 'playgroup' parties. It's good because (at least with the U.S. Usborne Books and More) we have some really cheap sign up specials. I just reactivated after being idle for a long time, and I paid $15 with free shipping and got a bunch of books and materials worth around $170. My kids love the books, and so I just think everyone should love them but unfortunately, many parents do not understand how important having good reading material in the home is. It's a business that attracts fellow book lovers and homeschoolers; the type of people who wouldn't go to the skin care party but they will for Usborne. Anyway, I hope that didn't sound too negative, I wanted it to be balanced. I think you can definitely make money with the business - it takes hard work and determine like anything else. You have to be comfortable following up with leads and being on the phone. I have a website, but in order to get traffic to it, I have to creatively market it.
Best of luck to you, whatever you decide. With a good sign up special, there's nothing to lose by signing up.
