Need Pattern Suggestion for Gnome Hat

I'm dressing my kiddo up as a gnome for Halloween and I want to knit him a hat. I want it to be long like a classic gnome hat and maybe have some ear flaps. It needs a tie for sure as he doesn't keep hats on well.

He is a BIG kid. Size 2 and sometimes 3T. IIRC his head was 19 and some odd inches at his last appt.

Let me know if you have any ideas of a pattern that might fit the bill here! (I'd love for it to be worsted weight so it'd be a quicker knit if possible! )

In the last issue of living crafts there was a very cute pattern. It was knit out of roving or something huge- so it would be a very quick knit.

do a swatch with worsted on maybe 7s and see if you come out close on a scaled up version.

Are you open to the idea of wet felting? THIS sounds like it might be right up your street (but, obviously, without the brim.)

I love the Hudson Hat pattern. It's worsted weight and it has ties.

Meathead hat! If you knit a while longer than recommended before the decreases you get a sweet gnomey shape.
