"Due to government standards and the personal, hygienic nature of the product, we recommend a menstrual cup should be replaced once a year. Ultimately, it is still up to the consumer to decide when she feels it is necessary to replace the cup."
I have a feeling the "government standards" part is why they had to put that. There probably aren't too many relevant guidelines for silicone menstrual cups since they are fairly new to the market. I certainly wouldn't replace it each year, but will rather wait until I see some indications that it's needed.

i had my first keeper for 6 and half years. then i decided it was time for a new one-but i still have the old one as a backup in my bathroom shelf-the new one i keep in my purse.
i dont know if there is a huge difference in lifespan between the keeper and the divacup, so ymmv, but mine could still be used. I just felt like it was time for a new one...i was cleaning it more often the longer time went on.
