Wanting a religion/church but not sure what I believe

As a child I was raised in a Christian church family. For a long time I have felt I want to go back to church, but haven't been sure what I believe. So is it okay to join a church again, even though I'm not sure what religious things I believe in?

I wouldn't turn up at a mosque, temple, synagogue etc...because I was raised as Christian. So as long as I find a Christian church, will it be okay to turn up there and start attending?

Sure, most would love to have you.

Some, however, would give you kind of a hard-sell conversion speil. Some of these may not welcome you if you don't buy into the spiel.

There are others, like the RC or OC where you would be welcome to attend and participate in much of the life of the Church while you figured things out a bit, but they do have a more formal membership process involved to commit to them or participate in the Sacraments.

And there are quite a few that you can just start attending with no formal membership process at all.

At our church, (we're named "evangelical", but I think we're mostly non-denom.), we would love to have you visit and see if you would like to attend. We would not ask you to "join", not until you were sure you agreed with the direction our church is heading. And even then, we really don't push "membership" as much as attendance and participation. We would hope you would find a place to volunteer and give back to the church, a ministry you could be an asset to, blessing yourself and others. Once you're sure we're the right church for you, then you can attend a membership class and join.
I would suggest searching web sites of churches around you and trying to find one that you think you'll like, then visiting them. Go to some services, talk to the pastor and others who greet you, see where you can be involved.
Good luck, this can be an exciting decision!

Well, it certainly can be done. I started going to church because my DD was really interested in religion, and the church I picked has a great children's program. But it's actually got a great program for adults, too. They call themselves a church for "seekers" and emphasize that it's ok to not agree or not even know what you believe, as long as you keep an open mind and are respectful. It's quite refreshing from the "this is what you must believe or else" I was expecting.

I'd start by googling seeker churchs in your area and see what comes up.

Another possibility is to check out a Unitarian Universalist service.
