Baby still not here
Well ladies...my homebirth thoughts are ruined...I tried everything my midwives told me...castor oil, herbal stuff, and nipp stim... nothing got me into labor...so after 3 days of rupture..Im admitted to the hospital...doing cervadil tongiht...and pit tommorrow if needed...I had myself a long ass cry to grieve the homebirth...but this hospital is the place to be for a natural childbirth...my midwives are here with me in addition to 2 doula friends and I now have a new midwife that I like as well...so all in all I am pretty blessed. So hopefully TOMMORROW I will see my beautiful child.
Thanks for all the love.
Liz

Wesley arrives
so after going to the hospital i got cervadil and pit and nothing worked...baby had major heart decels with pit and after rupture for so long they had to do a c-section... i never dilated past 1 cm...being a doula I know I did everything in my power to deliver the way I wanted and it wasn't in the cards...the c-section was really hard i experienced pain during the second half of it...very signficantly....but overall he was bigger than expected 8 lbs 1 ounce...he is beautiful and i have a baby now. Thanks for all the love... breastfeeding and recovery going okay...had a great support team at the hospital...he also has a small neural tube defect...a hole near his rectum...so that was another shocker...but he scored 9 9 on his apgars...he is healthy and smart and I am blessed.... its been quite the ride ladies...

Congratulations on your little boy!!! Sorry you had to have a c-section, but it sounds like you truly did everything you could possibly do!
About the NTD...both my sons have deep sacral dimples, my older son's is so deep that the bottom can't be visualized. He had xrays and an ultrasound and it was discovered that it does NOT go all the way to the spine, it is closed. But that can't be determined with the naked eye. We were still on guard for signs of a tethered cord, but he's shown none. If he ever did show signs, we would have done a CT scan or an MRI.
My other son's dimple isn't as deep, and with a little poking around, you can see the bottom of it. His is slightly off of mid-line, though, which was something the drs were watching for a while.
There are a few moms over in the special needs parenting forum with children who have NTDs, you might want to post over there when you're feeling up to it. They can tell you their stories and give you an idea of what your son might experience. Many of the smaller ones mean almost nothing in terms of growth and development, and even the ones that require surgery can be very simple and have no impact on the child (aside from having to go through surgery).
Enjoy that new little baby!!!! Heal quickly!!
