Any homebirthers in our ddc? My first (DS) was born at a BC, second, DH delivered in our truck (DD) enroute to said BC, and third (DD2) was born at home. I have an awesome midwife whom I love and am planning our second HB/waterbirth.

Just curious...

I taught middle school while pregnant with my first two. I have to tell you, coming clean with them sooner rather than later is a good idea. Being the rumor going around can really disrupt your classes.

I lucked out with my previous pregnancies. With my son I conceived in April. I was able to finish the school year without anyone knowing. Everyone found out I was pregnant when school started again in August and by then there was no hiding it. My daughter was conceived in June. I found it easiest for me to go ahead and let everyone know when school started again mostly because I wanted a decent long term sub.

With this being your first child, you may make it into your second trimester. I didn't start showing with Jacob until October (didn't even buy maternity clothes until them) I was six months along.

I am planning my first homebirth for this baby. My son was born in a hospital and it was not a good experience so we are looking forward to learning as much as we can about homebirth with our midwife.

We are planning a home birth with our first little one. I'm very excited, but not looking forward to dealing with some of my family members...

Jessica, actually, anyone who has short term disability can take time off during pregnancy with out it taking from your maternity leave. It's considered a "complication" of pregnancy and I get 100% pay for being off up to 13 weeks, then it goes to 70% then back to 75% depending on how long I'm out of work, but doesn't turn to maternity leave until baby is delivered. But yeah, thanks!!!

A lot of it depends on your body structure. I am 5' 10", normal weight, and have a long-ish torso. With my first, I never looked truly pregnant. I got a "thick" around the waist but that's it. I never wore maternity clothes, just unzipped the jeans & secured them with a rubber band. I just had a lot of room to hide that 7 lb. 11 oz. baby. Once I had the baby, I had a co-worked who said, "Oh, I had no idea you were pregnant! I thought you had just gained a bit of holiday weight!"

With my second I didn't start showing until I was about 7 1/2 months. People were always shocked when I told them how far along I was. I did finally break down and buy some knit pants to wear during that pregnancy and I remember how gooooooooood it felt to put them on. He was 8 lbs. 8 oz. so another good sized baby for that pregnancy.

Baby #3 had me in the comfy-cozy knit pants by 8 weeks though I didn't really start showing until late in my 6th month. He was 8 lbs. 2 oz.

By comparison, my SIL who is about the same height & is actually quite slender has a short torso and long legs. She couldn't hide her pregnancies past about 14 weeks because there simply wasn't any room in her abdomen to hide them! By the end of her last baby she was huge. There is just no other way to describe it. Ginormous. We were certain the baby was going to be over 10 lbs. because she was so big. But no...he was only 6 lb. 14 oz.

Ok, I'm already more than 30 minutes late to work--but I just had to share...

Tuesday's Beta was 97
Thursday's Beta was.... 284!!!!!

I'm so happy I'm crying again!

I'll get more caught up when I get home from work tonight. Welcome to the "new" mamas!

I am 5week-ish and feeling ligament pains already?!?!?!? I know it's my fourth, but my goodness I wasn't expecting that telltale pulling/burning sensation when I move too quickly. Which is, of course, difficult to avoid when running after a new walker. Mostly, just a bit nauseous when I'm hungry and the worst has to be the tender nipples at night when my baby is nursing. UGH. It's just I'm so tired and the rubbing pain keeps me awake. Trudging along...can't wait until my first appt in 6 weeks!

I will be having my 3rd homebirth, hopefully staying IN the water this time! I'm also 20lbs heavier than my pre-prg weight of #3, but I figure that way I only have to lose the weight once

I have 2 goals this pregnancy. 1> no fastfood (my weakness) and 2> do some inner work so that I can be in the right frame of mind throughout this pregnancy and birth! (which will be a lot of work, but I have a lot of time to do it!)

It's so nice to "meet" all you ladies!

This was actually my first symptom, and this is my first pregnancy! I didn't know what it was, but when I woke up in the morning and stretched/twisted, I felt it right away. I was complaining to my husband about weird pains and he thought I was crazy

I'm getting those pains now too. I remember with my 1st it was so intense, I didn't know what it was. I just knew I was in some serious pain.

I'm craving fast food. Taco Bell. Burger King, Rally's, M cDonalds! I haven't had any of it though

I am planning a home birth on the NHS, I have not had the support of my GP so far, so am hoping I will have better luck with the community midwife...

Let's see someone asked about why get a beta. I think it is pretty standard in the US if you have had fertility treatment for the RE to order a beta along with progesterone just to confirm pregnancy and make sure things are okay. I didn't ask for the beta but I did ask for the progesterone screen.

Someone else asked about homebirth. I wish I could have a homebirth! It is very much what I had wanted but my midwife isn't really keen on homebirth for a first baby. I see Pam at The Farm Midwives and they are a good hour and a half from my house. I understand her point of view that first time Mamas are likely to have more than one instance of thinking they are in labor and are likely to have long labors. Further, their back-up OB is out of the regional hospital down there, if for some reason we need to transfer they wouldn't have the same good working relationship with whatever hospital here we'd go to. So, I'll be staying down there or going down there (depending on circumstances) and although it isn't really what I envisioned I've made peace with it. I can always have the homebirth for subsequent babies and I won't be at the hospital.

Still no nausea here but my stomach gurgles so loudly it wakes me up! It's crazy. I'm firmly in the "don't want to eat" camp.

Anyone have any good halloween costume ideas for being slightly pregnant? Oh, come on! You know you want to confess!

lsnjd-- Looks like we are due date buddies!

We just got a BFP on Thursday and so using the calculators online I am due May 30th. So, this makes me officially 3 weeks and some odd days. However, I know I o'd 09/06. I've been off BC for 21 months and trying for 15 months. I already told my best friend who came running over the next day with presents, champagne for hubby and two outfits for the baby. So, my SIL, who is staying with us until next week, found out yesterday. Oh well, I don't think I could wait to tell anyways and I don't really see the point in hiding it from people who I care about.

we've actually already spoken with a midwife, and are thinking about homebirth seriously. we have an appt with another midwife up in TN (which is 30 min from us) at a BC on thurs. so it will hopefully either be a homebirth or BC birth.

btw, mamalovesbaby, i saw you are in london. dh and i are going to be in london during xmas this yr. i'm so excited! we've never been!

Me, too! They were awful with my past preg, and started a few weeks ago. My midwife explained last time around that it's important to baby them as they start out the width of a pencil and stretch to the width of the lead--and they hold a heck of a load. I'm trying, but how do I not lift my 30# 2 yr old already??? I was in childcare with my first pregnancy and strained one side pretty badly.

Wow. I've never heard that midwives may exclude first-time birthers. (It didn't apply in my situation--I was NEVER going to have a HB, lol...but NEVER in a hospital, either.)

DH took my 6 and 4 yr olds camping, so it's just me and the 2 yr old .

He's trying so hard to help out--it's so sweet!

Tippy- where in TN is there a birth center? Welcome to the DDC!

Dannic- It was early and I wasn't clear...it's not that they don't let first timers birth at home, it is that I am farther away then they will drive for first moms but I'm welcome to come down there or they would help me find someone up here. They would be happy to attend me at home if my home were an hour closer. But it's The Farm! Ina Mae! Spiritual Midwifery! How can I be so close and pass up that chance? I had contacted some of the more local midwives here but *NONE* of them responded aside from my friend who is a midwife. After meeting Pam and having her do my well woman care and seeing The Farm I just feel okay about going there instead of having a home birth. I hope that explains things better...

I told my mum I am pregnant yesterday, and she is just so over the moon for us . I was going to hold off telling her till 12 weeks, but I am just so bad at keeping secrets. She is going to come over from NZ about 2 weeks after our little baby is born, and she is so excited to be able to meet her grandbaby so soon after it is born .

Christmas in London is so wonderful, you are going to just love it so much. Everything is very festive, the city is covered in decorations, and iceskating rinks pop up all over the city. It is my favourite time of year in the city!

Hi Ladies,
Can I be added to the due date list please? I'd due May 30th with baby 1.1. I lost our first baby back in May at 7 weeks So, I'm a bit of a nutcase right now... and kinda expect to be one until 12ish weeks. We're going to be on team green! No intuition about the sex yet, and we're not going to find out.

I'm a student in a medical professional program right now, living in Australia on the other end of the world from our families. DH is about to finish his masters in November. We're really excited to be pregnant again

I'm thinking either the one birth center here, or a home birth. I just found out today that the birth center does not allow water birth which is making me lean home birth, even though as my first I think I might be more comfortable in the center. We'll see I guess.
