Doctor PUSHING Swine Flu Vax...

So I brought my daughter in today for a check up because I think she caught Hand Foot and Mouth. She has Epilespy and had a cluster of seizures last night which is usually brought on by illness sometimes.

Anyways, the doctor went into scare tactic mode and told me that my WHOLE family needs the Swine FLu vaccine because my daughter having Epilespy is at a huge risk of dying from the swine flu...

She pulled out an article of the NY Times that stated that children with Neurological Disorders at a high risk!

I do not vaccinate at all, my daughter had a seizure 8 hours after vaccines and then a brain bleed 3 weeks later....
I have a 19 month old, and a 13 week old, they are not vaccinated at all either.

Anyways. She scared me with this thought and usually when a doctor does this I feel that I can get a better grip on things by coming here for opinions!

Thanks!

Also, she stated that if I didnt choose to vaccinate my daughter that I should be prepared to stay home, and NOT LEAVE the house AT ALL! No grocery store, no nothing... I couldnt leave!

My daughter is suppose to start preschool this week, and will be in a large classroom about 25 kids. I hate to say it, but she freaked me out a little bit!

I'd rather be quarantined at home then have my child take that shot!

Wow, so your child had seizures for 8 hours and a brain bleed after vaccinations, and she wants to give an untested vaccine on that same child??? That sounds reckless to me. Besides, since when is the NY Times a medical journal with credible double blind studies to back up its claims? I sure wouldn't want a doctor who practiced medicine based on the NY Times!

Well, looks like the article says kids are having neurological problems from the swine flu but they all recovered.

Quote:
The announcement does not surprise doctors accustomed to seeing complications in the brain caused by the seasonal flu viruses that circulate every year.
So, the "normal" flu causes kids to have neuro problems, has she been pushing the reg flu vaccine every year? Why then this year?

On the other hand, this would scare me too
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2009...-Children.html

Quote:
- Almost two-thirds of the children who died with swine flu had epilepsy, cerebral palsy or other neurodevelopmental conditions. In a previous flu season, only a third of the children who died had those conditions.
You're looking at 66% of the kids who died of swine flu had neuro prob as opposed to 33% of those who died of regular flu.

It's hard to know what to do.

Quarantine is a real possibility so your doctor is not off base there. However, I don't think that is a good enough reason to risk your daughter's health especially since she had a seizure after vaccinations previously. Stock up on food so you could possibly stay home for 2 weeks if necessary like canned goods, shelf stable foods, frozen foods and basic ingredients (flour, dry beans, etc).

A friend of mine had a coworker out of work (back in May mind you, so this was during the first H1N1 wave of the year) for 2 weeks. He thought she had quit, but then she just showed back up. He asked her why she hadn't been to work and she said that her DD had H1N1 and she was quarantined to the house along with her daughter (as she was the main caregiver). Her DH was still free to work though even though he was staying at the house. He was able to do the shopping etc.

I'm not sure if that was all completely true (you know how retold tales go), but it seems plausible.

So you have to weigh the good vs the bad (like we non/selective/delayed vaxers seem to have to do a lot). Your DD could have some severe adverse side effects that you just can't predict. But don't let the thought of quarantine scare you.
