Anyone want to measure an 8yo girls calf for me?

Please

I want to make legwarmers for my niece but am not sure what measurements I should aim for. Just need calf measurement right below the knee and length to the ankle.

(Oh and a head circumfrence would be super helpful as well )

Thanks!

My 8YO DD is in school or I would. I do know her calf is slender enough for my hand to easily fit around. My hand is 8 inches from tip of my thumb to tip of my longest finger (I loosely measure things all the time with this method). Hopefully someone else will come along with more complete info for you...

My dd is 7.5 yo. Her calf is 11 1/8" around just below the knee (largest calf measurement a little lower is 11 3/4). The length from knee to ankle is about 12". I've been told she is tall for her age, though.

Head circ. is 21 1/4" across middle of forehead.

Oh and dd has what I'd call an athletic build. Slender but not "skinny".

My DD is REALLY slender... as in naturally "model thin"... so as I read other responses, I recommend calling the parent of your niece and asking for her measurements.....

I agree. Even if two girls weigh the same and are the same height, etc. the leg measurements could be really different. One could have short, muscle-y legs and the other could have really long, slim legs.

And head circumference can be really different. When my oldest son was 4 yo, he needed a new bike helmet and had to get an adult small. His half sister made him a polar fleece hat (probably just using the 4 - 5 size pattern) and it didn't even come close to fitting him.

I'm sure that the little girl's mom could get the measurements without spoiling the surprise, if that's what you're worried about.

Thanks ladies! I guess I probably should call her mom, I was worried about ruining the surprise but I'd rather they fit if I'm going to spend time knitting.
