question for Kelty owners

we got one handed down and it didn't come with the booklet. just wondering if it's supposed to have some type of sternum area buckle for the child. the buckle where the straps click in is so far down by the crotch area the straps just slide off no matter how tight we make them. most other things (stroller, car seat) have one buckle by the crotch area and a higher one to hold the straps on, so i was wondering if ours was missing something or if maybe you could buy one from kelty.

Some Kelty's were recalled for the straps not staying in the buckle. We had one and my DD slid out the bottom because of this. It was the chest strap that held her in enough for me to get it off before she fell to the ground. (which was hanging on to her by her armpits) The one we had just had a chest strap that was seperate from the shoulder straps. But ours was purchased 10 years ago (and no idea where it is now, lol), not sure how much they may have changed or not changed. You may want to try the babywearing forum here for more answers.

Our Kelty is the same way and I never figured out why the buckle was so darn low. It made it hard to get buckled, for one thing. Although we didn't have trouble with the straps falling off her shoulders, for some reason.

Is it really old? What color is it? That sounds like the one we got for DD but she's 11 now so obviously a while ago! Ours was royal blue and named the Elite (I think?)

Could you get another strap to act as a chest clip? You know, like how girls tie their bathing suit straps together in the back to keep them from falling off their shoulders? But in the front, not the back.

ours is the ridgeline model, dunno how old it is. our ds is 2, so he's more than big enough to ride in it. maybe i will just try tying something across to hold it. i know you can buy different replacement straps in camping stores for different backpacks, so maybe i will look for one that might work for ds. i will check the kelty site too, just wanted to ask you gals about it first.
