Does anyone plan on seeing this movie?

If you do go see it, can you please come back and give me a review?

I would just like to get a "feel" for the movie overall. My son (5yo) desperately wants to see it. (ok, I really want to see it too)

He's totally in love with Nightmare Before Christmas and The Corpse Bride so he's somewhat familiar with this kind of graphic.
I just kind of want to know how "action" packed it is...whether or not it drags.

TIA!

Lol! Yours too?! Man, ever since we watched TNBC it's been Halloween at our house year round!
Not that I'm complaining...I love it too!!! :

I'm almost ashamed...sometimes we break out with "kiddy-nap santy claws and put him in a bag" in places where we get strange looks.

It's apparently not socially acceptable to sing about kiddnapping Santa Clause. ROFLMAO.

My 16 year old saw it last night and enjoyed it. He didn't say it rocked or anything, but he liked it fine. It's a whopping 79 minutes long, so I doubt it drags very much.

I saw it with my 15 yo sister and two of her friends. We really, really liked it. Very much like a Twilight Zone episode where they throw you right into the story without any exposition - you just have to go with it and figure things out along with the characters. I love that kind of storytelling, but I don't know how well it would translate for very young viewers.

It definitely lives up to the PG-13 rating. It's really quite dark, lots of images of war and scary machine monsters. There's no blood or gore, but there are dead bodies and that caught me off-guard even as an adult. Death is definitely ever-present, and the death scenes could be pretty unsettling.

Like I said, I really liked it, but it's not a movie you walk out of with the warm fuzzies

My teens went yesterday with their dad. They didn't love it. But we aren't big Tim Burton fans, either.

This movie is dark, post-apocalyptical, and has very few (if any) funny scenes in it, and most of the movie is spent with the characters running and fighting for their lives.

The animation is great, and my kids loved it, I liked it, my husband did not. If you like sci-fi, war oriented, post-apocalyptical animation--think Princess Nausicaa--then you will like this movie.

My 11 year old said it best, I think. Her quote "You got the feeling that this wasn't going to be a happy movie in the beginning when 9 looks in that car and sees the dead mom holding the dead little kid."

If you think your kid can handle that, go for it. If you think it might be a little much, maybe you should go see it yourself and then decide.

I'd say it definitely depends on a child, but there is a good reason it's rated PG13. Things explode, burn, and jump out at you. Heck, I jumped a few times, and found it rather dark and creepy.

I liked it, but it did not impress me as a little kid movie, you know? The singing you find in Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas is not there. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the replies!

This def sounds like one we'll pass on for theatre viewing. Will prob be one of those home rentals I'll view first and then allow if I think he'll be ok.
He's pretty open and understanding for his age, but that still doesn't mean I need him to see dead mothers/children like that.

I've got a free weekend alone...maybe I'll get my chance to see it in the theatre!!
I bet the graphics are gorgeous on abig, dark screen.

Thanks again!

So, the kiddo and I finally got some time to rent this.

Strangley, we LOVED it.

Some have said that it wasn't a warm-fuzzy kind of movie, but I kind of felt warm and fuzzy with renewed hope after watching it. Werid, I know.

The cinematography was phenomenal!!! And the story behind it was great too.

I loved that it wasn't the usual brightly colored happy go lucky type of animation....but we are also in love with NBC and Corpse Bride, so...::shoulder shrug::

Yay for this thread. DH just bought 9 for us to watch and perhaps DS1. I've seen about 1/2 of it and I have to say I am not thrilled to have DS1 watch this one, its just a bit _too dark_ I think for my comfort level.

DH is hopeful it would be more a mix of humor & this dark post-apocalyptic world.

Yeah. Not so much humor in it.

It was even better the second time we watched it. To see the whole thing after knowing what each of the rag dolls is supposed to be is interesting.

I LOVE the twins....3 and 4. They had to be my favorite.
