anyone else start to freak out around week 40/41?

i'm at 40 or 41 weeks (probably 40, since my cycles are longer than 28 days) and suddenly freaking out about everything. my belly looks smaller this morning (possibly because the baby has dropped lower?) and it has me thinking the amniotic fluid might be low. i haven't received any prenatal care whatsoever but have felt completely healthy and eaten really well. now suddenly i'm sitting in the aftermath of having panicked & called two local midwives to schedule a prenatal checkup and want to call & cancel it because i'm sure everything is fine. maybe if the baby still isn't here by next week, THEN i would want a checkup. i feel so stupid!!! i don't want to give UCers a bad rep for being freaker-outers.

anybody else go through something similar? my firstborn came at 39 weeks, so i didn't have all this extra time for freaking out!

thanks, ladies!

Perhaps instead of cancelling it you could just reschedule for next week?

I got a little nervous with DS1 because at that point I wasnt aware of UC and my midwives had a very "this is what might go wrong" approach. With DS2 I was mostly excited, the only thing I was nervous about was needing to transfer (ended up with the most perfect UC I could have possibly hoped for, pain free and problem free).

If you are feeling this way it could be intuition or it could just be a simple need for a little reassurance. I hope it's the latter!

Happy birthing.

If the baby's dropped some it can make you look smaller too.

Sounds like you are a little worked up. Try to do something calming and tune into yourself and your baby. I like to focus-in before bed, it often gives me insight on myself that I cannot find during more sunny hours.

If you felt like calling a midwife, I'd listen to that. You could be physically fine and healthy, but emotionally needed to reach out, and that is OK!

Also, just working through some fears, worries or anything here on MDC is really freeing. Just start typing about anything and everything, and sometimes you realize that there was a nag of fear in the background. You can then question this fear and dispose of it.

Is the number 41, maybe causing some tension to you, since you didn't go this far with your previous pregnancy? Maybe reading some lovely 43+ week stories on healthy babies and mamas.

Thinking of you!

Just wondering about an update? I hope you are feeling better today. And perhaps you are holding your little one already?

I tend to worry about every little thing too, but I'm trying to just not think about it and keep my brain sane. I'm only 36 weeks though. I keep telling people i'm due on halloween so I can relax and enjoy the pregnancy without getting all freaked at the end.
