What, no thread yet?? Auditions start tonight!
I'm excited! I hope I don't forget, I'm so used to just having the DVR record things so I never know when anything is actually on!
I didn't want to start the thread but I'm SUPER excited!!!!

I know, me too about the DVR, I am used to just seeing it pop up and don't really monitor when things will start! I was just watching the "top 15 performances" show a couple days ago, and paid attention to the start date!

It's a good thing it was on right after TMZ. I never miss a TMZ, as long as I can help it.

The one thing I will miss about the DVR, is being able to skip the massive amount of commercials.

I love watching the auditions! So far, so good!

I don't usually watch the auditions portion, but since it's on right before Glee , I'll be starting at the beginning this season!

Love it!

There is going to be some good talent this year! I'm loving it already!

ETA: Oh yeah I forgot about the tappers! Awesome! I loved the Tap Trading. And I loved how Evan talked about the difference between battling and trading! So cool! It was great to watch!

The tappers were all good and deserve to go through- but will they keep 3 tappers? I think they already said Evan's brother got through.

I liked the blonde girl from Utah.

I am super-psyched about the 3 tappers. And the tap trading was awesome. Can't wait to see more. I LOVE this show.

Last night's was decent. It was hilarious that they showed how weird AZ is.

Reviving this thread a bit because the first round of Top 20 is on tonight! I'm not sure why they switched it up to being on tonight, but I'm excited!!! I think it's going to be a great Top 20 this season! I just hope the choreography is spectacular this season!!!

Tonight isn't a competition night. The top twenty will all dance in their own styles (or maybe some other styles?) as a sort of showcase. First competition is, I believe, tomorrow night.

I can't believe Billy Bell dropped out. He was my favorite.
Does anyone else hate the new set? It doesn't feel nearly as intimate. I feel like the camera angles are all from too high up. And that digital backdrop with all the distracting lights? Its too much. I wish they would have left it alone. I feel like its getting overproduced like Idol, but it doesn't work for dance. Hopefully I will be able to get used to the changes and enjoy all the great dancers they found this season.

I did not like the tap routine. Just didn't read well on tv. And the choreo and music just were all wrong for the "introduction" of tap to the show.

Oh no, I didn't know Billy Bell was dropping out. He was probably my favorite too. Amazing talent.

It says Billy Bell got sick and his doctor advised him to quit, but didn't say anything further. I'm so bummed. I hope I can still enjoy the season.

wow, I thought last night was fabulous! I also thought, as the judges said, that they were so good, where do they go from here? I guess the challenge is them excelling at other styles!

Very happy to see Adam as a permanent judge, for some reason he strikes me as a very decent and fair and kind individual and his critiques are usually helpful and heartfelt. And, I will be happy to see Paula Abdul on there, if Nigel was serious! I'm still upset about her being replaced for Ellen on AI, so this show is a good place for her, as a choreographer and dancer herself!

Too bad about Billy Bell, I hadn't seen the news- was it on the website?

ITA with this - I think they could have done a LOT more to make a tap dance both interesting *and* technically challenging to showcase the dancers' skills. It missed the mark for me.

I want Russell to win, already - just like I wanted Jeanette to win last year because she was not trained a lot beyond Latin but she nailed every.single.genre they threw at her. Seeing Russell in the auditions nail all these different genres with NO formal training makes me want him to win - that is a true gift, true talent in my book and what the competition should be about - seeing him match skills with people who have years and years of formal training warms the cockles of my heart (FWIW I have nothing *against* formal training - I had formal training for almost 13 years but never got to this level...I was decent, and made our little school's "company", but was never professional-level). I hope hope hope he continues to knock it out on all the different genres. I might actually break down and vote this season just to try to keep him in the competition...I normally don't vote on principle but I might this season because of him.

It is very sad that Billy Bell is leaving - wasn't he the one who was too young last year? And now this? The poor guy.

I liked the showcase show last night. I hope they keep doing this each season. I agree about the tappers. It was quite boring. They could have done so much more with them.

Billy Bell? NOOOOOO!!!!!!

The latin-dancing wife bugs me. I already don't like her. I'm also glad that Adam is a permanent judge! He cracks me up, almost as much as Tyce!

Looking forward to tonight...

What's up with not letting the audience vote? I feel cheated.

males: i'm liking russell, nathaniel (the one who was too young for season 5) and Billy Bell, who has left the show due to having mono! bummer, his body control is crazy.

females: i like the blond girl who is into sports from MA, can't remember her name and no one else has jumped out at me - i REALLY liked the girl who made it to the Top 20 but didn't take it because she was offered a movie, she was awesome!

glad no one got voted out last night, i actually think starting out the season with a showcase is a cool idea, kinda evening the playing field really.

it should be a great competition!
