diapering my ec baby

Well I just cleaned my baby after she pooped in a diaper. WOW! I do not know how people do that as a normal thing. I am surprised by all of this. I used EC with my 1st daughter and she never pooped anywhere but a receptacle. now I believe people that say all babies are different. My 1st child always let me know if she wet her panties right away, never pooped in her pants, and certainly never pooped on the floor while naked. This child has pooped on the floor a few times (with no warning) and after getting the steam cleaner out and it taking an hour to clean it and her up, I surrendered to diapering full time again. I am hoping this is the 'potty pause' so common just before big achievements, like she is about to walk. I seriously do not want to have to clean poop off her butt again. But she has pooped in her diaper the last three poops she has had. Most of the time when I do offer the potty, she gets very mad. I tried standing her in the tub to pee with a little warm water like I did with my 1st when she had the need for a new place to potty, but this one wouldn't even pee there. So, I have given in to disposables and I feel horrible about the environmental impact. But since I am staying at someone else's home, its not like I can let her just poop on the carpet either. I salute women that deal with diapering all the time and those that stubbornly EC a hard case like this one. She is so close to walking, I am hopeful it will pass when she starts that. I am too old for this, lol...

and it happened again

just after i wrote this, it happened again. I took the soiled diaper off and put her on the potty to finish. A little bit came out and then she was leaping off the potty, then put her foot in it. I took her ot stand in the tub so I could begin cleaning her and get the potty into the bathroom, she finished while standing in tub, then promptly sat in it and smeared it around. argh. I didn't know how lucky I was with my 1st daughter apparently, and did not understand what the other, women that did ec were going through. After an extensive clean and nursing, she is sleeping peacefully, diapered again, for now. Maybe when she gets past the eating bits of fluff off the floor stage I will have the strength to deal with this again. It is so much harder having 2 children. ok well thanks for listening

Hi karika- I like reading how you said that all babies are different! I know that, and I just happen to have a poop-y baby, I think! I'm with you on wondering how people clean poop full time! I had that same though about 3 (?- maybe more) months ago and since then I usually clean poop twice a day even though in our early EC days we had long stretches with no poop misses! My recollection was that pauses like that were pretty brief in the earlier months. I hope that encourages you!

Hi Carrie,
I can imagine you must be very frustrated, especially after such an amazing experience with your first daughter. I also got frustrated when having to change a poopy diaper, I often felt like I didn't even know how to get him clean and the whole thing was disgusting. Then I would realize that "normal" moms did that every day sometimes more than once per day and I am bewildered. Also felt disappointed, as I thought I was somehow not doing EC "right" or something. Have since developed a better perspective but it was hard.

Just wanted to share a couple of thoughts. I am wondering if the fact that you are staying at someone else's home, if it is a recent thing, could be impacting your daughter and the reason for the 'potty pause'? Secondly, I was wondering if you've thought about using reusable diapers or training pants so that you can meet all of your needs to keep the floor clean, keep your daughter's awareness, and meet your concern for the environment?

I know the feeling. We've had maybe two poop misses in the past month, but it's so overwhelmingly gross that I can't imagine doing it every day either.
