My oldest had an anaphylactic reaction to her 4th round of vax's as a baby- I didn't know then what I know now and I wish I had- we didn't do any more- my youngest is 10 months and vax free- the only thing I worry about is Pertussis/Whooping Cough- but the vax worries me more- my kids do not go to day care etc. and we are very vigil about keeping hands clean when we go places- they are extremely healthy children- only 3-5 colds for the oldest and 1 for the youngest- I may consider a Tetanus shot for my youngest when he's 7 years old, maybe

With regards to advertisements I saw a meningitis commercial a bunch of times....a crowd of healthy children at the park running and playing and the voiceover "THis is what meningitis can look like 24 hours before it kills a child."

Yeah, no fear-mongering there.

I will say that the message I get from society is that it is very dangerous not to vax. I am made to feel like I must be stupid to even question it. Even so my daughter has not been jabbed. We were going to delay and start at 6 months but as we get closer to that age the more I think we are going to keep delaying, and delaying, and delaying.
It's scary to go against the grain. In the end though this is your child and you need to make the best decision for them.

s: Parenting can be terrifying! My kids range in age from 24 yrs to 3 yrs and I'm still always acutely aware of the immense responsibility involved in making big decisions for them, so good for you for asking questions and taking the time to research and make good decisions. In the end, that's what this comes down to - research, research, research until you can make the decision that brings you peace.

IMHO, this is a toughie - at least it was for us. In spite of the fact that my decision has been made, I remember being where you are now, sitting on the fence. My DS has neurodevelopmental disorders, so trying to keep his body as clean as possible is of utmost importance to us. On the other hand, DH and I are old enough to clearly remember devastating results, although only a few (a 2y/o neighbor nearly lost to viral meningitis, a cousin who is sterile because of childhood bout of mumps, and a childhood friend of DH's born blind because his mom contracted rubella while pg with him), to catching some of the illnesses these vaccines are supposed to prevent. I do understand your angst.

This board is a wealth of information, so search and read and weigh your options - you'll know when you get there! We can give you opinions all day long, but in the end the only one that matters - the only one that will bring you comfort - is the informed one you make.
